Oak Home Learning 11th Jan

Hello Oak friends, it is the start of a new year.  It is already a new year with a difference.  We are sad that we are not able to return to the classroom to learn together.  For now, we will be learning remotely and we will check in every week.  We look forward to seeing you all on Vscene and taking part in some activities.

There will be a selection of activities that cover literacy, numeracy, and Health and well-being.  Please click on the week commencing date 11th Jan and it will take you to the activities.   Try them out and repeat them throughout the week. We learn and consolidate our learning by repeating activities.

There is no pressure to complete all the tasks go at your own pace and do what you can.  If you do complete any activities we would love to see some photos.  We will share your photos on our class blog and all your friends can see what you have been up to. Please email your photos to nicola.murray@eastayrshire.org.uk

Routine and structure are important for us all to manage through this uncertain time.  Plan your day of activities before going to bed, set an alarm, get up have breakfast and start your day.  Do not forget to add in daily exercise and fresh air, a short walk will help everyone feel better.

Stay home, stay safe and smile.

Snowdrop Home Learning Activities

Hello Snowdrops!

We are missing you all in school and hope it won’t be long until we are all together again.  You may have your lockdown pack of activities to keep you busy, but we will also post some fun activities every week for you to try at home with adult help. The Snowdrops always enjoy learning about animals, so here are some animal related tasks.

Literacy – In class, we enjoy watching and listening to Makaton Stories.  So this week, you could look at the Dear Zoo story being told by Singing Hands.  You can also practise your Makaton animal signs.  Here is the link for you to find and enjoy watching the story at home.

Numeracy – Now for some animal counting – This counting song is a Snowdrop favourite! So I’m sure there will be lots of smiles when you play this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lf5lYxE0c5c

Try to say some numbers, point or simply watch all the fish appearing and moving.

HWB – Moovlee the monkey always keeps us active in class.  So, we’re going to keep thinking about animals and follow Moovlee to make animal poses and moves.

Home Economics – We like touching, smelling and eating different fruits.  It’s also fun to make different shapes with your fruit pieces and here are some ideas for animal shapes. Ask an adult to help you.

Maybe you have some play doh at home and could make some fruit shapes with play doh too.  Can you count how many pieces of fruit you make?  Or sign and say what colour they are?

Finally – If you just want some sensory relaxation, here are some links to underwater animal relaxing music to lie or sit quietly and listen to.

Take care Snowdrops and keep checking the blogs for more learning fun activities! Hope to see you all soon, Mrs Brown/Mrs Smith

FAOL – SCIENCES

**Successful Learners    ** Effective Contributors

We collected natural items from the garden to make winter ice ornaments. We filled plastic trays with these items then filled with water. Left outside, overnight, they froze to form natural decorations which we hung in the garden. They glinted in the sunshine. If it stays cold we hope to still see them after the weekend however if it gets warmer will they melt? We’ll just have to wait and see.

We created loads of Christmas craft to send home, one of which was this paper plate Christmas tree decoration. I’m sure they looked great at home.

We all worked hard rehearsing for our part in the school virtual Christmas Show. We sang and signed to 5 Brown Reindeer. We hope you all enjoyed the show.

Pine Lockdown Week 1 – Spinderella 🕷🕸

Well Happy New Year Pine Class – different start to the New Year from what we had hoped!!!

There is a pack with different activities – you can pick and choose the bits you want to do or do it all – remember we love to see your photos and lovely art work.

While Wilson and Logan were in the Beech Room last term they heard the lovely Mrs Wilson reading the story Spinderella to some of the class during Numeracy – what a great story for counting!!! So for this we are going to base all our activities on Spinderella ….and Spiders!!!!

Who likes SPIDERS???

LOGAN is not a fan – used to be really scared, but she loves the Spinderella Story.

SHIELDS only likes tarantulas!!!!!

WILSON is the Spider Catcher – no squashing spiders on her watch -Joan the Janitor comes to get her when there is one in the school!

BOYLE is fine with them as long as they aren’t too close, but loves how they can spin their magic webs.

Spider’s Web  are very impressive indeed, check out the link below.

Natural History Museum – Spider’s Webs

Literacy – Click on the Link below to hear the Story of Spinderella 📚

Spinderella is a spider that wants to learn to count, and enjoys a game of Football!

Spinderella

  • Can you remember what some of Spinderella’s brothers were called?
  • What did they use for a football?
  • What colour was the Hairy Godmother?
  • What number did the class count to?
  • What colours were the bibs?
  • How many flies did Spinderella have for dinner?
  • How many spiders were on each team?
  • How many legs does each spider have?
  • What did mum use for a whistle?
  • Who scored the winning goal?

Well did you like this story?

Think this might be a new favourite Numeracy Story in the Pine Room. 🔢

Some more Numeracy – concentrating on the number 8 – like the legs of a spider!!
