Sungazers – Week beginning Monday 26th March

SENSORY COOKERY SESSION

The Sungazers were Confident Individuals at Cookery this week as we participated in a hands-on sensory cookery session.  The children enjoyed a chocolate fondue experience and explored a variety of tastes and textures.  This was also a great way to sneakily introduce different foods. This creative session promoted independence by allowing the children to do as many of the processes as possible, melting, mixing, chopping dipping etc.  Each child had their own set of equipment and ingredients to ensure we followed Covid Safety Guidelines.  Most importantly the children loved getting involved and had great fun.

IDL – HWB

Making a bear sandwich.

We looked at the ingredients we needed to make a bear sandwich. We needed bread, chocolate spread, banana and blueberries. We each got a slice of bread and used a knife to spread the chocolate spread on the bread. We then sliced the banana to create a nose and ears for the bear.  We then chose blueberries to add to make two eyes and the tip of his nose. The boys loved creating this and were able to spread with physical support from staff. They enjoyed seeing their final creation and some tried it at snack time.

Outdoors

Building in our outdoor space.

We enjoyed exploring the bricks in our outdoor area. We were confident individuals and tried to build a tower and a wall with the new bricks.  We even tried balancing on the wall we built.

It has been all about Literacy this week.

In the Oak class we have worked hard on our literacy, listening and talking skills.  We have all been confident individuals when looking and describing what we see in pictures.  We enjoyed looking at our self in the mirror, we have a class who really enjoy admiring themselves.

Everyone had to complete a portrait of themselves and then confidently stand and share their features of hair colour and eye colour to the class.  We were very proud of the loud clear and confident voices used when talking to their friends.

We have been working on improving our reading skills and recognising the sound two letters make when they are put together.  We were successful learners working on our own sounds and could roll and read the words.

We have had effective contributors working well with a partner to complete a jigsaw puzzle with some gestural support from an adult.  Lots of great team work and problem solving whilst working against the clock to complete.

IDL – Building and creating houses for the 3 little pigs

Effective Contributors/Successful Learners

The Snowdrops are showing lots of interest in our new theme story about the 3 little pigs.  Everyone has responded well to building houses using large bricks or construction toys.  We have all explored different textures and noticed how they feel using our fingers.  The Snowdrops have showed interest in gluing and sticking textures to create houses from our story.  We are creating a wall display in class showing our story.

World Earth Day

Responsible Citizens

We planted nasturtium seeds in the garden, for Earth Day, and built a wigwam to support the climbing plants as they grow. We must remember to keep them well watered! We did recycling and energy saving activities plus made a global cupcake flower picture. We also found that reading a story using a torch is not easy so we had better not waste electricity. At science we did a water pollution experiment. What will grow best……..the seeds with water or the seeds with lemon (acid) water? We will see next week.

World Earth Day

Effective Contributors – Responsible Citizens

To celebrate World Earth Day, the Beech class read the story ‘George Saves the World by Lunchtime’ and thought of ways that we could help save the world too! We make sure that the smart board is turned off at home time & we turn the lights off throughout the day when we don’t need them on. We created Earth stained-glass windows to shine the colours of the Earth into our classroom!
