We have been successful learners and continued working on out Alphabet books – we made some lovely Caterpillar pictures using green and yellow paint and different brushes – great concentration.

In our SQA Communication Unit, we listened to the ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What can you see?’ story and the rap again and chose your favourite animal – although some of us just could not decide!

We listened to the Singing Hands telling the story and practised our Makaton signs.

Successful Learners – SQA Recognising Character

The Transition class were Successful Learners when they completed some more work on their class book. Before the October holiday the class used tea to stain some fake fur to represent the first time we meet Iorek the bear and he is working in a factory. The class compared their dried fur to original fur to confirm it looked dirty enough! They added it to their physical description sheet where they had coloured Iorek using warm and cold colours.

We also looked at Lyra’s physical description and discovered that she wears denim and can be quite grubby. We got some old jeans and matched them to the character Lyra in our story.

FAOL – Good Health and Wellbeing

*Successful Learners*     *Confident Individuals*     *Responsible Citizens*

The Snowdrops have really enjoyed looking at, touching, smelling and tasting a variety of healthy foods.  For trying new healthy foods we followed the process of smelling it first, then kissing it with our lips, touching it with our tongues and then finally popping it in our mouths to eat.  Everyone did really well following these steps for the first time.

We have also looked at and explored foods that are unhealthy for us and discuss why they were not good for us. We were then able to identify and sort a variety of foods into the 2 different groups of healthy and unhealthy.

IDL MNU Evidence

Successful Learners/Effective Contributors/Confident Individuals

The Asteroids have been busy investigating the weights of different vegetables and comparing their weights and sizes. We tried to estimate which vegetable would be the heaviest then we checked our predictions using the balancing scales.
We worked hard to order some vegetables in order of heaviest to lightest, lightest to heaviest.

The Transition class were Successful Learners when working on their SQA topic Recognising Character in Fiction. They class worked on physical descriptions of Iorek the Bear from ‘His Dark Materials’.  The class noticed that fur (fake of course) that we had was too clean compared to Iorek when we meet him for the first time. The class had lots of fun staining the fur with tea.

SQA – Signs in the Community

Our class are completing National 1 SQA Signs in the Community, in school we looked at different signs we could see when we are out and about.  We took part in a class discussion about what the different signs mean.

We then all enjoyed going a walk around the local community to search for as many signs as possible.  Once we had found them we were all successful learners in identifying the information that it was telling us.
