Responsible Citizens – Science Week Preperations

The Transition class were Responsible Citizens when preparing experiments for science week. The room was a buzz of activities. We filled lots of small containers for smell tests, labelled mystery taste jars, printed instructions and made short instructional videos.  All set for next week!

Science Week

This week was Science Week and we did lots of different experiments in class. We had lots of messy play and added water to cornflour to make gloop. It felt strange but we really enjoyed touching it with our hands. We did the pepper experiment.  We put soap on our hand and watch the pepper move away from our finger. We did rain cloud in a cup and watched as the blue food colouring went through the cloud and went into the cup. We also explored the bubble rocket in the playground stomping and making it go high in the sky and the bubbles float away.

Successful learners           Confident individuals                                                             Responsible citizens            Effective contributors

The Moonbeams have had lots of fun being Scientists this week.  The pupils mixed ingredients together to create a variety of chemical reactions. They enjoyed exploring the different textures and observing the changes. Take a look at some of our experiments.

Vinegar Pops – Vinegar ice cubes and baking soda mixed together created a chemical reaction.

Ice Cream in a bag – Ice and salt create ice crystals to make ice cream

Slime  – changing back to a liquid form

Cornflour Slime –  consistency changes when touched

Mallow Slime  – consistency changes when warm

Science Week

We have had lots of fun taking part in different science activities to celebrate Science Week. We were confident individuals making predictions about the outcome of different experiments, and were successful learners following different instructions.

Science Week fun in the Planets!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS *

This week, Willowbank are celebrating Science Week! The Planets started the week with a BANG by carrying out a range of science experiments.

We made invisible ink by drawing or writing a message with lemon juice and then adding some heat. Our images slowly appeared like magic!

We tried out the ringing spoon experiment where we tied a spoon with some string, held the string in our ears and tapped the spoon and magnified the sound. It sounded like a “gong”.

We managed to make popcorn dance by using water, vinegar and baking soda.

We managed to make an orange float and sink in water. It floated on top of the water at first, once it was peeled, it sank to the bottom!

Finally, we tried the coke and mentos science experiment outside. We loved watching the soda erupt!

Oak Home Learning

This week we are celebrating Science Week,  click on the link below to view some experiments, try them out at home.  How many will be successful?  Be a confident individual and make your predictions.  Science Week.

Also, all our usual literacy, numeracy and Health and Well-being activities can be found on the weekly overview, click the link,  8th March.

It is Mother’s Day on Sunday, can you make your mum a lovely card and let her know how much you ‘love’ her.

Have a great week and remember do what you can, there is no pressure.

We will all be back together very soon!

Science Week

The Stars class were successful learners during science week. We explored many experiments in class (many of them very messy!) and also had a good time on Tuesday when we saw the planetarium, robots, engines and had fun with circuits on our STEM Science Day. We also had a fun Friday for Sports Relief where we took part in corridor activities.

Science Week – Colour Mixing Liquids!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Bluebells class have enjoyed actively participating in all of this week’s Science activities. Today’s final experiment was colour mixing with food colouring. We predicted what some of the colours would make when mixed, then tried it out in our practical experiment.

We had great fun!

Confident Individuals – Science Week

We loved Science week this year!  We loved the visiting planetarium especially!  Here are some of our favourite photos from this week.

We made rockets and had a competition to see whose would travel furthest.

We conducted an experiment by building our own rocket ships and testing whose rocket would travel the furthest by changing a range of variables.   We loved making gloop!   Creating static.

We discovered stars and planets by looking through different, powerful telescopes.

We learned some physics behind the catapult motion. Sean loved experimenting with the different robotic equipment that was brought into school.

We made music by connecting electrical Circuits.

We made puffy paint and learned about the moon!

Science Week

This week, we have been confident individuals by exploring lots of different areas of science.

On Tuesday, we welcomed visitors to our school and took part in lots of activities. we particularly enjoyed exploring stars and planets in the planetarium, and creating out own stomp rockets before competing to see who’s would travel the furthest.

We have also been taking part in experiments within the class and created our own hypothesis by discussing what we thought might happen after each experiment. We were responsible citizens by taking turns with peers.
