Yoga : Animal postures

https://youtu.be/5XCQfYsFa3Q

Hi Everyone.                                                                                           I hope you are well and staying safe. This sunshine is wonderful and I hope that you have managed to find time to go outside and enjoy this lovely weather.

This week As it is rather warm at the moment I have chosen a yoga activity for you try.
Yoga can be done inside or outside depending on how you are feeling.

The postures are all related to animals so if you have a family pet please have A look at how your dog or cat moves about. This will help you to understand why the  yoga postures are named after animals.

Please have a look at the  YouTube link above and enjoy trying Yoga at home.
Take Care

Sports week and tasks

Hello Snowdrops , hope you have all enjoyed this fantastic weather and been sun safe . This week in school would have been sports day on Tuesday  . All the staff teams have made some race videos and will be shared tomorrow  for you all to watch and hopefully create some races at home .
As always we have some task for you to complete if you wish .
Activity 1 – size sequencing

This activity involves using household items and putting them in an order from smallest to biggest ,  use any items that you can think of . I have included some examples I used spoons , pot lids or could use the actual pots , towels , clothes eg t shirts for everyone in the house or shoes .

Activity 2 – floating and sinking

Some science next , we all love to play with water so let’s try and gather some items , anything at all . Fill a bucket, basin or if you have your paddling pool out can use it and drop the items in one at a time and see what floats and what sinks . If you have an orange try using it and see what happens if you drop it in the first time with the skin on , then get a grown up to help peel it and try again . Was there any difference ?

Activity 3 – Moon sand
Why don’t you have a go at making your own sand you only need three ingredients .

4 cups of flour

1/2 cup oil ( vegetable or baby oil )

food colouring ( optional )

Add the flour to a bowl and add a few drops of food colour if you wish .
Next pour in the oil to the middle of the bowl , you now need to mix it together so either use a spoon or get your hands in and squeeze it all together .
once mixed put it on a tray or container that you can use to play with it .
You can make shapes if you have cutters or like we do in school practice drawing letters or numbers in the sand with your finger .

We have been loving the photos of you all working so hard and enjoying time with your families. Keep up the good work everyone all the ladies are very proud of you all . 👍🏻

Weekly Activities- 1st June

Good Morning Daisies!

I hope everyone is getting to enjoy the lovely weather we are having again. Below are some activity ideas for the week. You can complete as many or as few as you would like.

  1. Use chalk or a wet paint brush to make marks on the ground or pavement. Can you make any letters or write your name?
  2. Count how many steps it takes you to move from one room in your house to another. Does the number change if you take big steps & little steps?
  3. Can you help your family to make the dinner? Look for different ingredients and stir these in a bowl with support.
  4. Create a picture of your family. You could use art resources or different materials you can find in your house or garden.
  5. Stay safe in the sun- help to get ready to spend time in the sun by putting on a hat and sunglasses, and helping an adult to apply your sun-cream.

Have fun and don’t forget to send some photos of you completing activities to kris.campbell@eastayrshire.org.uk 🙂

Weekly Home Learning (7)

Sports Week!

Hi everyone,

In honour of Sports Day, I thought it would be fun to have a sport themed week of home learning!  Here are some suggestions of some fun activities…

Starter Activity: Online Game

Literacy

  1. Story time! This is a story all about a very famous basketball player called LeBron James and his love for Basketball.  The story is an uplifting tale of how we can overcome anything if we just put our mind to it.
  2. Can you find items around the house starting with all the letters in the word ‘SPORT’? For example, see how many items you can find that begin with the letter ‘S’, how many items can you find that begin with the letter ‘P’ and so on.  Can you put all your items in the correct order to spell out ‘sport’?
  3. Develop your fine motor skills by creating a ball-shaped lacing activity. Simply draw the shape and pattern of a sports ball and use a sharp pencil (use blue tack/a rubber/dough underneath to protect fingers and tables) to poke some holes.  Use a lace from a shoe to thread in and out the holes.

Numeracy

  1. Take part in a sports themed scavenger hunt!  Kindly ask an adult to find as many sports related items as possible can and hide them around the house. E.g. Trainers, sports tops, laces, balls, trophies/medals, football scarves, shorts, sweat bands, skittles… etc.   count how many items you managed to find within a given time!  In class we were working on matching numbers to items we have counted.  Why not, with some help, write out the numbers 1 – 10 on ten bits of paper and match up the items to the correct number?  g. if you found three pairs of shorts, match and sit the shorts next to the number 3.
  2. Remember to think about ordinal numbers throughout this week. Every time you play a game, have a think and talk about who or what came first, second and third!  This helps us to develop our understanding of numbers, their order and their value.

Art and Design: Sustainable Development

Your design challenge Is to design and create either an up-cycled medal or up-cycled trophy using only old or recycled household items.  Below is an example of what could be made using toilet roll tubes or plastic cups, ribbon or material, colouring pens or paint and card or cardboard.

 Science:  Family Blow Race

For this activity you will need; drinking straws, make-shift start and finishing lines and a variety of small ball shapes made from household items. E.g. tinfoil, paper, play dough, cotton balls, crafts pompoms, small balloon.

The aim is to predict which ball will reach the finish line first or in the quickest time by blowing it from the start line to the finish line using the straw!  Make your hypothesis, complete the test and observe your results – which one made it across in the quickest time?  Who make the correct prediction?

Had fun with that?  Try this!

To finish off your week , why not test you knowledge by taking this fun quiz with your family 😊

Remember to keep an eye on the school app and this blog for details about our virtual sports day video!

As always, have fun and don’t stress about doing these activities.  They are only suggestions.  I will be in contact with you all over the next couple of days to check-in.  Take care! ♥

Shadow Drawing! ☀️

Good morning!

I hope you are all keeping well and staying safe. This week the art challenge is focussed around the sunny weather.

If you are able to get outdoors then perhaps you’d like to try some shadow drawing. You could trace around absolutely anything, even the people in your household!

Perhaps try tracing with chalk or filling in the shadowed area with water. Or maybe create some shadow puppets. This can be done indoors with templates or hands.

Stay safe in the sun!

Sports Week & Challenges

So Oak class welcome to another week, things are starting to change with lockdown but for now we are still working from home.

We have made you a video to recap all the rules of lockdown in the next phase. Click here to watch.

Literacy –

Let’s make someone in your family smile, can you make them a rainbow card and then post it to them. Get an adult to help you with your spelling for the words on your card. Click here to watch a video on how to make the card.

If you do not have coloured paper, use white paper and colour in your hearts. You will need to get an adult to help cut out the love hearts.  When they are cutting this out, you too can be working on your cutting skills.

Numeracy –

Family Time BINGO

Ask an adult to make a bingo card for everyone using o’clock and half past the hour.  If you have a printer you can access time bingo cards from the twinkl website.

Cooking –

Can you make your own lunch, how about making a cheese and ham toastie. Miss Miller has a video you can watch to find out how to make one.  Click here to watch the video.

Art –

On your daily walk or in your garden can you collect sticks, flowers, grass anything that would make a lovely picture. You will also need some salt or sugar to shake over your hand to reveal your hand outline.  Here are some examples below;

Music –

This week can you get your family to sing one of our favourite songs, Love my Life.  Click here to watch the video.

PE –

Sports day would have been this week, so keep checking in with the blog and school app as there will be a secondary sports day video.  All the staff have taken part in some fun races, you could try them out with your family.  We would love to see any photos of your family lockdown sports day.

Cosmic yoga – as a class we enjoy taking part in these sessions after lunch.  Click here to try out a session about a butterfly.

Class Pet –

All the butterflies have been released apart from one.  We had four healthy butterflies and one had a broken wing.  So it is unable to fly so Mrs Murray is going to continue to look after it at home. It has enjoyed more fresh flowers, apples, and pineapple this weekend.

Family Fun!

This week’s challenge involves lots of fun and interaction with our families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Our focus is on social skills so I thought it would be fun to play lots of games.

In class, our favourites are Duck Duck Goose or What’s the time Mr Wolf? However there are lots of games you can play including Tig and Hide and Seek.

These can take place in your house or in the garden and involve no resources.

Alternatively you can have some competitive challenges like lego tower building (set a timer and see who can build the tallest tower in that time), a game of limbo or piggy in the middle.

I’d love to see some photographs of you enjoying some family fun and games so feel free to send them for our blog 📸

Have fun! 😃
