St Andrew’s Day in the Snowdrops Room

Responsible Citizens/Effective Contributors

The Snowdrops have showed lots of interest in Scottish activities.  We have created Scottish flags using different textures and then been able to ‘spot’ small flags on different food packaging.  Everyone enjoyed exploring Scottish foods – especially Scottish spreading cheese and oatcakes!

Literacy activities

This week we are learning about “d”. The boys all love ducks and were so excited to colour and stick feathers to create their own duck. We also used lots of shapes of brown to create a dog. The boys also used purple triangles to create dinosaurs. The boys are confident individuals in copying the action and saying the sounds. They are then successful learners by following instructions and creating their own animals.

St Andrew’s Day

Monday was St Andrew’s Day. The boys listened to a story and looked at pictures on the board. We then made a Scotland flag using tissue paper and cotton wool. We also used cars to create a lovely tartan picture. They were confident individuals dipping the wheels in the paint and rolling them across the paper to create their very own tartan design. We also used crayons to follow the lines on on our pencil control worksheets. We listened to some Scottish music which we were not keen on.

St Andrew’s Day

To celebrate St Andrew’s Day, in the Oak class we have made some thistles and weaved some tartan.  We were successful learners and worked on our fine motor skills. We all actively participated in all the activities, we were creative and used different shapes to create our own thistle.

We prepared the Christmas decorations for the school and also made some Grinch tree baubles to match the Christmas cards we made.  The Oak class will not let the COVID Grinch steal Christmas this year.

St. Andrew’s and Singing Hands

Although St. Andrew’s Day is not until Monday the Stars Class have been successful learners and effective contributors this week by learning about him. We made St. Andrew’s flags, enjoyed Scottish sensory handling and did some Scottish dancing. We used broccoli florets to print thistle pictures and enjoyed a Scottish taste and try. Singing Hands visited virtually today. We had great fun!

Literacy

This week we did lots activities related to the sound “m”. On Monday we were successful learners and made a mouse we added whiskers, a nose and ears to a big brown M. On Thursday we made our own mirror with tin foil and added lots of jewels to make it sparkle. We also explored marshmallows and used spaghetti to make structured and different objects. We stuck eight pieces of spaghetti into one marshmallow to make an octopus. In the afternoon we used different materials to make a green M into a monster. The boys really enjoyed choosing their materials and every monster was different. We also read a story about a silly monster and his friends – everyone listened really well looking at the pictures of the different monsters.

Responsible Citizens  Effective Contributors   Successful Learners

The Moonbeams had a great time listening to Singing Hands and joining in with some of the signs which we had been practicing in class. The children loved hearing the Christmas Songs and looking at all the funny hats the ladies were wearing. Thanks Friends Of Willowbank and The Singing Hands Ladies.
