Monday’s Circle Assembly

At Monday’s Circle Assemblies, Mrs. Wright and Mrs. McLaughland consulted all the pupils on Gargieston’s Curriculum. That means thinking about the things we learn in school and what we want to learn more or less of. We considered the things we think it is important for us to learn and the things we learn in Gargieston that makes our school special. Every circle group made a poster to illustrate  our thinking and share our opinions.                                       Article 12 of the UNCRC says :-                                                                                            Every child has the right to have a say in all matters affecting them, and to have their views taken seriously

P4A Choose Kindness

In P4A we were discussing what kindness means to us.  We believe that when you are kind, you make the world a happier, safer place.  Have a look at our photos to see what kindness means to us, sharing a smile with each other and words that show we think mean kindness and caring for others.

Rights Respecting Schools Harvest Food Collection

As part of our work towards our Level 1 award and our celebration of Harvest , the Rights Respecting Schools Group are organising a food collection from each class which will be donated to the East Ayrshire Foodbank to help families in need within our community. From Monday 2nd October, we would be extremely grateful  if pupils were able to each bring one item of non-perishable food for their class box. Foodstuffs will be collected together as part of our Harvest assembly on Friday, 13th October which will be led by the RRS group. The foodbank would welcome any donations but have indicated that they would be particularly grateful for donations of:-  tinned fruit ,teabag, breakfast cereal, dried pasta

  • The Article of the UNCRC that this work relates to is Article 26:-“Governments must provide extra money for the children of families in need”.

Rights Respecting Schools Our Right of the Month

The Article from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) which we are looking at in class and at assemblies between now and the October holiday is Article 16:-

“Every child has the right to privacy. The law should protect the child’s private, family and home life”.

Here is a link to all the Articles. Can you spot the ones we have already looked at in school?

Global Citizenship – Sal’s Shoes

To all children and parents,
In two days time, school will close and we will mark the end of this school year. Before you run for the doors to enjoy your long summer holiday, we want you to change another child’s life on the way out . . .
We ask that on Thursday, you take your school shoes off and place them on your desk and leave school barefoot. A group of teachers, parents and pupils will gather the donated shoes up and they will be sent to a child in Africa via the wonderful work of Sal’s Shoes, a charity we would like to support.
So those shoes, which are unlikely to be used again because your feet will grow over the summer, won’t just sit in the shoe cupboard getting in the way, but will have a second life. A whole school leaving barefoot would be a powerful message that we want to help those fellow school children who have no choice but to leave school barefoot every day.
Please help us to help others who are less fortunate than ourselves.
There is no obligation to take part but we would love to support this charity and the work they carry out in finding new feet for pre-loved children’s shoes. To find out more about Sal’s Shoes you can visit their website.
P.S. We would appreciate one pair of shoes per pupil only. Of course you can bring in another pair of shoes to change into after walking out of school for your journey home; and if you have only recently purchased school shoes perhaps you would have another pair of outgrown shoes you may wish to bring in and leave behind. We’d love for you to take part.
We would as that pupils bring a £1 coin to school on Thursday. This money will help to pay for the transporting of the shoes all the way to their new owner.
Thank you, the Rights Respecting Schools Group
