Electric Cars Visit Gargieston

We were so lucky today to receive a visit from Mrs Kennedy (Fraser Kennedy’s mum) who was happy to share with us lots of information from her ‘Scottish Electric Club’. Mrs Kennedy is the owner of a ZOE electric Renault car.

We found out lots of interesting facts about electric cars and learned that when many of our class are aged to drive it may be in an electric car! They are also much  more beneficial for our eco system.

We even had two electric cars in our playground! It was great fun to explore!

Thank you  Mrs Kennedy

Flying with STEM!

A huge thank you to Mr Wilson (Jack Wilson’s dad) who joined Base 3 yesterday to teach us about the STEM behind flying. His presentation included video footage of the important procedures before flight. It was also very nice to see Jack making an appearance in the clips.

It was very exciting to watch Jack and his dad take off into the sky. What a brilliant hobby to have. Base 3 now has some keen flying enthusiasts.

Thank you again, Mr Wilson!

STEM Ambassador Visitor – Civil Engineering Base 3

Base 3 had a visitor today from Mr Dyet, who is a STEM Ambassador, a civil engineer and Adam and Blair’s Daddy. He works for Transport Scotland which he loves. We learned so much about what he does as a civil engineer and why and how he became an engineer. We took part in different activities including spot examples of civil engineering on a map. We also got lots of fantastic gifts from Transport Scotland. Thank you Mr Dyet, we learned so much about your job.

STEM – P5a Origami Homework Challenge

Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. This week P5a were set a homework task to create some origami art of their choosing.

Together in class we looked at making a swan and searched online for great instructive videos and guides.

I am blown away with the amount of effort put in by the children! Check out our Origami art below!

Thank you to our visitor!

P5a would like to kindly thank Mr Johnson (great uncle to Kyan and Ryan) who visited our class today. With him he brought lots of medals, information and models to teach us about his father’s experiences during WW2.

We would also like to thank Mrs Gallagher (mum of Kyan and Ryan) who helped us to organise this visit.

The children very much enjoyed listening to this talk and asking plenty of questions.

Have a look at some pictures below.
