The current UNCRC Article of the Month is
Article 29
I have the right to an education which develops my personality, respect for others’ rights and the environment.
With the COP 26 Conference just around the corner and climate change being a big issue for children all around the world, we have been focusing on the environment aspect of this Article. Children have been completing a homework task based on this theme:-
One change that you feel people should make to help save the Earth.
Some of the children’s posters which express their views are now displayed at the entrance to Morrison’s Supermarket in Kilmarnock and will remain there throughout the time of the COP 26 conference. We hope you can pop in, take a look and find out about the issues that matter to the children of Gargieston.
Well done to everyone who took part in this worthwhile task.
Here are the elected members of the Rights Respecting Schools Group at their last socially distanced meeting.

At assembly times, we have always liked to celebrate the children’s wider achievements – their successes out with school times. It’s great to have this again with clubs and events back up and running, so we thought we’d share some with you on the blog too.
Anna Reid, in Primary 6A, recently competed at an international gymnastics event in South Tyneside. Anna, along with her two secondary aged team mates won the GOLD medal – an amazing reward for all their hard work and dedication. Well done, Anna we are extremely proud of you and I’m sure everyone looking at these photos will be so impressed with what you are capable of doing. That’s Anna at the top, everyone!
Also, congratulations to some runners in the school. The Rana and Ahmad families took part in a 5K Pretty Muddy run in Manchester in memory of family members and all others affected by cancer, raising an amazing £1182. Again, we are so proud of your fabulous achievement, fundraising for such a worthy cause.
Here are pictures of Anaya, Alisha and Yusuf finishing their run and later with their medals.
Yesterday the P6 girls put their new leadership skills to the test by running an Active Girls Day for P1-7. Despite the typical Scottish weather, the girls all had fun and the P6 girls headed home for a well-deserved rest!
Thanks to Kirsty Millar from Active Schools who supported the P6 girls in delivering their playground games!
