Playground Toy Amnesty

Throughout the rest of this session, we would like to add to the playground toys we have in our playground shed so that pupils have a greater variety of activities to take part in at breaktimes and lunchtimes. Before we start to purchase new equipment, we would ask any pupils and families, who have equipment/toys they have finished with or grown out of and which are still in good condition, to donate them to the school so that others can also have fun and enjoyment with them. Any donations would be very welcome from Monday, 15th January. Here we can see Max, Harris, Jamie and Noah from P1 having a first shot on our new table tennis table which was donated to the school by Mr and Mrs Hettrick and the new equipment bag containing a net, bats and balls donated by the GFG and ordered for us by Mrs. Montgomery. We cannot thank you all enough. The boys had great fun!!! Other stages within the school can look forward to getting a turn very soon!!

Certificate Winners

Congratulations to our first Starwriters and Maths certificate winners of 2018 who were presented with their awards at Friday’s assembly!! Each week we alternate these literacy and numeracy awards between the older and younger classes to celebrate the achievement of our learners. The P4-7 Starwriters this week were Miller Stewart, Charlotte McLardy, Harry Thomson, Roan Darnbrough and Marcus Ahrens. This week’s Maths award winners were Megan Haggerty, Mark Wilson, Brooke Jamieson, Finlay Black, Nathan Hamilton, Bobby Cowan and Aaron Goldie. These certificates will now be displayed in our school for everyone to read. Well done to all!!

P3A are Going for Green!

We have decided to change our Class Charter to better suit our P3 class.  We have made pockets to keep our green cards safe until assemblies on Fridays.  Miss Caldow has been giving out more green cards this week because we have stopped other class rewards.  We think this will be much better because we are only working towards one thing.  Here is a picture of our new charter, we hope you like it.

We also discussed the different things we could do to get green cards and reminded ourselves of our class rules.  Some of the Rights of the Child are also displayed.

“I think it’s better than keeping green cards in our trays because sometimes they get lost” – Sophie.

“I think it’s better because we can easily see how many green cards we have” – Tessa.

“Our green cards our safer in the small pockets” – Harry.

Communication Corner

Please speak to your child’s keyworker about any concerns regarding your child’s speech or communication. Have a look on the board for information regarding age and stage speech sound development. Inside the yellow button wallet are leaflets regarding speech development for your guidance. Here at Gargieston we have an appointed communication champion Miss Clark who regularly works in partnership with the SALT team attending training and network meetings to improve and support communication and language development for your child. We are a Makaton friendly environment and hope to reach being a communication friendly environment in the future.  Please have a look at the yellow button wallet and take a leaflet these have been restocked.

Communication Board update….

Our top tip of the month is make reading part of your day. I have made up another sheet that provides key information on the benefits and impact of regularly reading with your child. Please take a few moments to have a read or view our communication board in the ECC cloakroom where you will find more information on aiding your child’s communication and language skills.
