Up-cycling Update

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated old polo shirts to Miss Caldow.  We almost have enough but to give the children a better experience during their workshops we would benefit from around 10 more.  If you have any that are old or do not fit your child anymore could you please send them in.  Their condition doesn’t matter as we will alter them anyway.

Thank you!

As part of ‘Developing the Young Workforce’ week from the 4th-6th March, Miss Caldow is looking for old school polo shirts that can be up-cycled.  These will be cut up and altered so please only send old items that you are finished with.  They can be any size and we will also accept plain white t-shirts.  Please send anything you have in with your child to pass to Miss Caldow.

P5/6 STEM After-school Family Learning Club UPDATE!

See the source image

We are aware that by the time pupils reach the P5/6 stage a lot of them have younger siblings.  As a result we have not had a huge response to our clubs.  Please feel free to bring along younger siblings to these clubs to join in the learning.  Pupils still require adults to attend with them each week.

The P5/6 Electricity STEM after-school club will begin on Wednesday 20th November and will run for four weeks from 3.30pm until 4.30pm.  Participation in the club will require children attending the club to be accompanied by an adult.  This is to enhance family engagement in the STEM subjects.   If you would like to attend please use the form below to sign up.  The cut off date is Friday 15th November.  The club is limited to 20 places, if more than 20 children sign up names will be drawn from a hat.

STEM Family Learning Clubs

Thank you to everyone who competed the Microsoft Form about the areas of STEM you child is interested in.  This has allowed the STEM working party to tailor each club to what children working at that level are most interested in.

The results were as follows:

P5-6 club will have an Electricity theme and this will be held in Term 1.  Unfortunately, P7s will be unable to sign up for this club at this time due to Pantomime rehearsals and performances.  They will be involved in other STEM experiences throughout the year.

P2-4 club will have a Space theme and this will be held in Term 2.

Pre-school – P1 club will have a Living Things theme and this will be held in Term 3.

Each club will run for four weeks and the expectation is that pupils will attend with an adult to allow them to share their learning with someone in their family.  More information on how to sign up for our P5-6 club will follow soon.

Pre-school-Primary 7 STEM Clubs

Image result for stemMiss McColl, Miss Caldow, Miss Fyvie and Miss Kinnaird are interested in running after-school STEM clubs at Early (including pre-schoolers), First and Second Level. We have built a partnership with the Kilmarnock Engineering and Science Society (KESS) who will also be supporting these workshops. The hope is that the Second Level club will run in Term 1, First Level in Term 2 and Early Level in Term 3. To allow the team to plan appropriate activities we would like pupils to choose the areas of STEM they are most interested in.

Please follow the link below and choose the top three Science areas your child is interested in.

Partnerships with the Wider Community

At Gargieston Primary we are looking to promote effective learning through partnership working and to create wider community partnerships to provide real-life learning contexts.

“Working in partnership affords young people a broad range of opportunities and scope for greater personalisation and choice, with benefits for both the young person and the partner organisation. Working with each other, and with other partners such as parents, employers, public bodies and voluntary organisations, can help schools and other learning providers to make the most of their contribution and recognise their part in promoting lifelong learning” (Curriculum for Excellence – Building the Curriculum 4, 2009).

With all of the amazing expertise and skill set amongst our parents and friends of the school think of the endless opportunities we could create for our children.  Please follow the link below to complete a short questionnaire providing us with details of your place of work.

Summer Show – Gargie’s Disney Extravaganza

It is approaching the time of year where we start planning our annual summer talent show.  This year we have decided to have a Disney theme, meaning that all acts should have a Disney element e.g. be performed to a Disney song, performers should be dressed as a Disney character or the performance should tell a short Disney story.

Auditions will be held the week beginning 18th March during lunchtimes.  If your child wishes to take part individually or as part of a group they should fill in an audition slip and return it to Miss Caldow by Thursday 14th March.  Audition slips will be given to class teachers this week for children to fill in.

To avoid duplication, song choices will be on a first come first served basis.    Miss Caldow will be taking a Sign Language Club on Monday’s at lunchtime to learn some songs using British Sign Language.  This club will be learning ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and also ‘The Circle of Life’ from The Lion King.  Could other performers please avoid choosing these songs.

The show is pencilled in for Wednesday 15th May, however more details will follow nearer the time.  Right now we are just looking for audition slips to be handed in.

Get together with your friends and have fun coming up with a Disney-themed act!

Children in Need 2018

P3A are fundraising for Children in Need this year.  The reason we are supporting this charity is because they help British children.  They help children in need who are disabled, have hard lives, have serious illnesses or are poor.  We are running an enterprise business to try and raise money for this amazing charity.

Items will go on sale from Monday 12th November.

This year for Children in Need we are selling the following products:

Wristbands –  £1

Pudsey and Blush Ears –  £2.50

Light-up Keyrings –  £2

We are also selling Pick ‘n’ Mix sweeties in little bags which P3A have made as part of their enterprise topic.  These will be 30p.

If you wish you can wear spotty or Pudsey clothes  for 50p on 16th November.

Thank you we hope you can help.

Hallowe’en Disco

Everyone had a great time at the Hallowe’en Discos last night.  Here are some pictures of our fabulous costumes.

Costume Wanted

P3A are wondering if anyone has an astronaut costume at home that we could borrow for our class assembly? It would be well looked after and returned on Friday 12th October.

Many thanks
