Primary 1 to 3 Pupils of Toward Primary have been working very hard to rebuild Fairyland in their classroom with help from the Friendly Dragon. Pupils were given a family learning challenge to plan, design and create their own model of their dream castle with help from members of their family.

Glassary go on a farm to fork trail
P1-3 had a great time visiting Tesco in Oban as part of their Food and Farming topic. They began in the bakery and helped to make bread and see all the stages that bread goes through before it appears on the store shelves. Watching fresh pancakes be made and then eating them whilst still warm was a highlight of the visit! Another favourite activity was tasting and comparing cheeses made from cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk on the cheese counter.
Friendship across the miles!
Calling all 9 year old children in Argyll!! Would you like to have a friend from another country? Lesley Goodwin,principal teacher at Minard Primary started writing to her friend Carla Perkins when she was 12 years old and this friendship has continued by snail mail, phone calls,texting and currently Facebook. On April 3rd 2015 Lesley travelled to Columbia, Kentucky, USA to finally meet up with her friend and her family.
The BarrowBand
Did you know broccoli comes from Italy? Or that carrots came from Afghanistan? Primary 1-4 pupils in the Mid Argyll area learned these and many other interesting facts about fruit and vegetables thanks to The BarrowBand. The BarrowBand’s goal is to ‘inspire a new generation of people (especially children) to love, understand and demand fruit and vegetables as part of their diet and lives.
Bowmore is ‘Greentastic’!
Bowmore Primary have done it again! By hard work and dedication, we have earned our fourth Green Flag as an eco-school! Not only do we maintain our eco way of life by litter-picking, saving energy, composting peelings and running a healthy tuck, we have made time to improve our school grounds. Our raised beds and rockery are now well established and used to their full potential.
Legion Scotland Primary Schools Competition 2014/15 – Stories of WWI’s Families
Both Kilniver and Port Ellen Primary School are through to the voting stage of the Scottish Legion story writing and photo competition. Schools who entered this competition investigated how the outbreak of World War One impacted on the families in their local communities and the effect that it had on the day-to-day lives around them. Ten children from the winning school will receive a unique VIP experience at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo!

St. Joseph’s Scoop the Double…….Again!
St. Joseph’s recently had a visit from Adam Muggoch and Jack Rudram of Helensburgh Rotary Club who came along to school to present prizes in the local Young Writer’s Competition. Lucy and Nelle had taken first and second place respectively in their category by writing a piece on the topic ‘ Light up the Community’. Nelle wrote a piece around family inspiring you and Lucy’s piece described how the Helensburgh foodbank brought light into the life of the community.
Dalintober Gets messy
Primary 5 at Dalintober had their very own Messy Church at Lorne and Lowland Church. Rachael, Marie and Jean had organised lots of interesting activities to link with the topic of Easter. A puppet helped to tell us the story of Easter, while vigourous movement was needed to join in the songs. This was followed by a variety of messy crafts plus an egg hunt. Finally, everybody sat together to enjoy lunch and a chat about the morning’s Messy Church.
Pizza Perfection at Rhunahaorine
Children at Rhunahaorine have been exploring ways of creating healthy, tasty pizzas using fresh ingredients. We have been developing our skills for learning, life and work.
First we learned about basic food hygiene.
Next we baked and tasted several different pizza base recipes and judged them on the criteria of cost, healthiness, appearance and taste.

Kirn School attended their Easter Service at Kirn Church this morning. The whole school walked in the glorious Spring sunshine escorted by police horses Arcadia and Kincardine.

Easter benefit for SCIAF at St. Joseph’s!
The generous pupils at St. Joseph’s managed to raise £330 for their nominated Lenten charity SCIAF this week. Staff bought prizes for a children’s raffle with all proceeds intended for a charity close to the hearts of the whole school family: The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund. With the government’s pledge to double any donations to SCIAF before May 2015, these funds are now guaranteed to mean a £660 donation for the charity.
St. Mun’s Explore The Rainforest…. In Cornwall
After scooping the coveted Eden Award, at the Rolls Royce Science Awards, held at the Science Centre in London, last November, with their Biodiversity project entitled ‘If You Go Down In The Woods Today’, the children of Primary 7, along with their teacher, set about planning the 1,100 mile round trip visit to The Eden Project, St. Austell in Cornwall.

Primary 7s at St. Mun’s Show Off Their Inventions
The pupils of St. Mun’s Primary have just completed their designs ahead of the deadline for the Scottish Engineering Leaders Award for STEM 2014/15. The Awards challenged Primary and Secondary school pupils across Scotland to research and interview inspiring engineers, providing them with a fantastic opportunity to engage with real engineers who could convey the importance of STEM in their daily working lives.

St. Joseph’s a Winner at Showing Racism the Red Card!
Nicholas, a P6 pupil at St. Joseph’s Primary School in Helensburgh recently attended Hampden Park with his mum and teacher, Miss Trainer for the winner’s day out following the ‘Show Racism Red Card Competition’. Show Racism the Red Card (Scotland) is a charity that promotes anti-racism through education. The aim of their campaign is to combat racism through education and the use of footballers as role models.

A busy week at Southend Primary
Book Week
We held our very own Book Week. This involved writing book reviews, class talks about our favourite books and dressing up as our favourite book characters. We also had parents come in to read to us. John McCallum from the Campbeltown Courier came to our school to talk about his job. We asked lots of questions and found out lots of information about being a journalist.

Islay Schools Band Concert
Islay High School Band, Primary School Band and Ceol na Cloinne our P3/4 Training Band, held a fantastic concert on Thursday 19th March. Our special guests were Coisir Og Gaelic Ile, Ella Edgar Dancers and Islay High School Pipers. A great night was had by all, there was a lot of new exciting music from all bands not to mention soloists from the Primary band and High School Band, all of whom put on great performances. A great night was had by all, well done boys and girls!
Park Primary 3 Authors!
This term Primary 3 in Park Primary School have been learning all about stories and books! We visited Waterstones and the Oban Library to find out how books are created and shared. Then we wrote our own stories and published them in book format. On Friday 27th March we hosted a book launch assembly for the rest of the school and lots of parents and other family members who came to share and celebrate our learning.

Wonderful Winning Weaving!
In 2012 our school joined the Crofting Connections project and as part of that, we were given a loom. We did lots of work around weaving and even went to collect some lichens to dye our own wool. Then we used the loom to weave a piece of fabric that was green and white and rather rough. Fiona Macdonald (a good weaver that lives close to school) helped us to set it up. Then we decided to have a competition to see who could design the best tartan.
Colgrain Blitz
Primary 6/7 pupils at Colgrain are currently learning about the events of The Clydebank Blitz. They were shocked to return to their classroom after lunch to discover that the school had been hit by a stray bomb! To protect themselves from any more possible attacks they spent the afternoon working under their desks. The children worked together to produce ARP reports on the damage sustained and produced poetry based around their feelings of being caught up in the Blitz.
