Children at Rhunahaorine have been exploring ways of creating healthy, tasty pizzas using fresh ingredients. We have been developing our skills for learning, life and work.
First we learned about basic food hygiene.
Next we baked and tasted several different pizza base recipes and judged them on the criteria of cost, healthiness, appearance and taste.
We prepared and tasted a selection of vegetables and even tried hot chillies! Meanwhile the p1 and 2 children created a pizza take away role play area and encouraged the teachers to phone in their orders.
Then it was time to team up and compete for title of Best Pizza. It was very close but the winners invented the ” Consanglie Pizza” featuring a combination of mushroom, sausage and garlic. Our pre-5 children were very discerning judges and agreed that we needed a lot more chilli on the ” Mouth Burner” while the “McOnion” came in a close third. We wrote out recipes and have asked our Catering Manager if she can add our pizzas to the menu.
