On Thursday 22nd May, 9 teams from different Primary schools in the Helensburgh and Lomond area took part in the annual Christian Aid Netball tournament. The tournament took place in Lomond Sports Hall and was a most enjoyable evening with some great play and teamwork shown by all the pupils involved. In the preliminary rounds Hermitage Primary and Cardross Primary came out top, with Colgrain Primary and the All Stars coming runners-up.

Heartstart training for P6/7s at Sandbank Primary
The Primary 6/7 class at Sandbank were all lucky enough to receive training in first aid last week, as part of their Health Week activities. Heartstart trainer, Melville, visited our class and showed us how to deliver basic first aid, including CPR, and what to do if someone is choking. We all enjoyed trying out CPR using the Resusci Annie mannequins and practising to deliver abdominal thrusts using the choke vest.

Hermitage Primary School – Christian Aid Football Tournament – Hermitage Academy
The Hermitage Primary school football team travelled to Hermitage Academy to take part in the annual Christian Aid football tournament. The boys played very well on the night winning all of their group games, scoring 17 goals and conceding 0. In the semi-final they played Lomond and despite conceding their first goal of the tournament they won the game 7-1. In the final they faced Cardross who they had already beaten in the earlier group stages.

Castlehill Primary School
The Cooperative in Campbeltown are very kindly donating fruit to each class at Castlehill Primary school over the next few weeks. This is part of the Pupil Council’s initiative to encourage all pupils to eat a healthy snack. Below is a photo of the Pupil Council receiving the fruit from staff from the Coop. Primary 1 and Primary 2 children were the first to receive their free fruit, with the other classes receiving fruit over the next few weeks.
The Pupil Council would like to thank the Co-op very much for their kind donation of fruit for the school.
Dunoon Grammar School – Apps for Good final
Dunoon Grammar School have two teams shortlisted for the people’s choice award at this year’s Apps for Good UK finals.
The Apps for Good Awards are an annual competition to showcase some of the best apps created by student teams. Over 25,000 young people from 1250 establishments have participated this year – so it is a real honour to have two teams at this year’s awards.
This people’s choice award is a public vote. DGS is up against schools from geographically denser areas – so we are looking for as much help as possible with the vote.

Kirn Eco Committee visit Sky Academy
The Eco Committee from Kirn Primary School, along with some pupils from P4-P7 visited the Sky Academy in Livingston. The pupils were there to film a short news report about the environmental problem of plastics in our oceans and waters.
Minard Primary School host Open Day
Minard primary School pupils and staff welcomed all parents to an open afternoon on Thursday. The pupils showed their parents around the classroom. The highlights include the Positive Pandas and the Viking house. The Kung Foo punctuation was very ably demonstrated by P4. The boys then each presented a short power point on their Viking topic. It is fair to say that there was a fair amount of competition when it came to the ‘Parent’ Quiz.
DEVELOPING OUR OUTDOOR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT DUNBEG PRIMARY SCHOOL.
Whilst Dunbeg Primary School is treasured by its local community; its grounds are a treasure in their own right. Over the past seven months pupils, staff and parents have begun to develop them as an accessible, fun and exciting place to learn.
August 2017: The wetland/woodland area hinted at past projects but was thoroughly overgrown and boggy. An inspiring place however with clear educational and well-being potential!

Fundraising Fun At St Mun’s
During the Lenten period, the pupils of St Mun’s Primary were challenged to organise and run events to help raise money for two important charities: SCIAF and The Cowal Hospice Trust. Throughout March, a variety of activities took place: a Bring ‘n’ Buy Sale, Easter Egg Hunt, Guess the Name of the Easter Bunny Competition and a Chocolate Tombola. P.6/5 researched Scottish recipes and produced their own Cookery Book and P.7/6 ran a Coffee Morning to which parents and parishioners of Our Lady and St Mun were invited.

Bravo Taynuilt Primary School!
Bien joué! ¡Bien hecho! Gut gemacht! Molto bene! (Well done!)
On Monday 15th May five Primary 6 pupils from Taynuilt Primary travelled to Edinburgh to the Euroquiz National Final 2108. The competition involved 470 schools from all over Scotland taking part in Euroquiz heats to represent their own areas. Taynuilt Primary won our area quiz to represent Argyll and Bute. There were 31 schools at the Final, from the Borders to Shetland to the Western Isles, and was it held in the Debating Chamber of the Scottish Parliament. Sumdog competition time again!
The next Argyll and Bute Sumdog competition begins on Friday 20th April and will run until Thursday 26th April. Last time over 2000 students across Argyll and Bute took part in the competition and answered an amazing 553, 351 questions correctly – can we beat this score? Clachan Primary took 1st place, P5-7 at Craignish Primary came 2nd with the P6 class at Dunoon Primary coming in 3rd. Who is up for the challenge of overtaking these worthy winners? Congratulations to Clachan – winners of the Argyll and Bute Sumdog competition!
Clachan Primary are excited to be winners of the Sumdog Contest which ran in Argyll and Bute from 16th to 22nd March. Over 2000 students in Argyll and Bute took part in the contest, answering 553, 351 questions correctly!
All the pupils at Clachan Primary worked hard as a team to answer questions accurately over a week.
“We do Sumdog because it increases our flexible thinking in maths and to improve our learning,” said P6.
“It makes us more confident when we do maths and makes it more fun,” said P4.
“Sumdog helps us improve our mental maths and we can answer questions accurately,” said P5.
Well done to everyone who took part.

Rhu Primary P5 Tudor Day
Primary 5 pupils from Rhu Primary School took part in a Tudor day to celebrate the end of their Term 3 Tudor topic. The pupils were able to dress up in Tudor attire if they so wished and took part in a range of Tudor related activities throughout the day, such as: preparing and tasting Pottage (a traditional vegetable soup); designing their own Tudor shield; making a Tudor rose; and playing Chess . Parents were invited in at the end of the day to look at the pupils work.
Clachan Primary School – 6th Green Flag
We are delighted to announce that Clachan Primary School have been awarded their 6th Green Flag. This shows we have been an Eco School with Green Flag Status for 10 years! Well done to all involved.

Kilchattan School’s young poets are getting published.
The pupils of Kilchattan School have been working very hard on their creative writing skills and have produced lots of interesting work. The topic this term was poetry so they thought they would have a go at entering the Young Writers “Little Riddlers” and “Rhymecraft” Poetry competitions. They were all very excited to learn that all 5 of their poems are going to get published. Well done all!
Castlehill Primary School – Fun Run for Sport Relief
Pupils from Castlehill Primary School took part in their daily mile on Friday 23rd March. All the classes from Primary 1 to Primary 7 ran, walked or jogged together around the school in aid of Sport Relief. It was great fun and at the end the children enjoyed fruit donated by Tesco. A big thank you to them for providing this fruit for the whole school.
