Farmers Feast

On Tuesday 3rd October 2017 primary 6/7 made a delicious buffet for elders in the local community. Some of the delicious food that were available: Bramble muffins, pancakes, tomato soup, egg sandwiches, oat and apple cookies, bramble and apple cakes and jam sandwiches. After everyone got welcomed and took a seat the P6/7s told everyone about the feast. While everyone ate some people from the class were on a table with each other and we had to talk to the people on our table. Soon after everyone had had a wee bit to eat the Gaelic choir sang some beautiful songs and some of the choir did poems and solos. After the Gaelic choir sang the Primary School band played some songs. The instruments that were played were the flute and the clarinet. The final thing that happened was primary 1,2 and 3 did some poems and they sounded lovely. Everyone had a great time, enjoyed the entertainment and very much appreciated our lovely foods.

Author Visit

On Friday 30th September an author came in to p6/7 called Barbra Henderson and she talked to us about her books and one of them was called Fir For Luck. She also talked to us about her newest book called Punch and it is not out in the real world yet but we are the first to hear it. We have heard the first chapter of it.  She also choose some of us to act out some of the parts of the story. At the end she gave us all a bookmark and the choices were Punch or Fir For Luck.  I loved acting out one of the parts in Fir For Luck. I learned that one of her books had 37,000 words. We also learned she has writen more that ten book but not all of them are published.  We enjoied the author coming in and we hope that another author comes in soon.

Naves Soaps

On Monday 18th September Nave was selling soaps to the school and for a big soap it was 50p and for a small soap it was 10p. At the end of the day Nave counted up all the money and they raised £16.80. That £16.80 is going to our school breakfast club so that we can buy some food for it.  Things that we are hoping to buy with the money that we raised; Bread, chocolate spread, fruit, rolls, cereal, butter, jam, cheese and eggs.

The Local Mod

On Saturday 9th September the joint choir, gaelic choir and individual competitors performed at the local mod in Islay High School. Both choirs came back with trophies for the unison, peurt ubeil and two part competitions. Lots of individuals came back with medals for poems, solo’s, duets and instruments. Mrs MacDonald was very pleased with all the trophies that the joint choir and the gaelic choir won.

Picnic Lunch

On Tuesday 27th we had a picnic lunch to celebrate us winning the STEM awards. When we went down for lunch, everyone was excited because there was music playing. We got told there would be a surprise at the end but we didn’t know what it would be. Everyone was dancing and then we went up to get lunch. There was cakes and sandwiches. After we all got told to look out the door and when we looked out we seen and heard the ice cream van. We then got told we were getting ice cream. Everyone was really surprised. We went outside to eat our ice cream and when we came back in we watched the movie sing.  It was fun!

P7 LEAVERS

Every year, P7s from every school present and talk about all of their memories and experiences that they had. To present this, they think of wacky, funny ways to present it to their teacher and parents at the end of the school year. Port Ellen are doing a leavers that includes memories and photos of them when they were little, a lip dub containing the song “We Are The Champions,” and also videos that describes what we want to be when we are older. There were also voiceovers of us thanking our teachers and displaying photos of when we were younger.

The theme of our leavers is growing up, and at the start and the end we sing two different songs, Count on me by Bruno Mars, and Can’t Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake.

I am really excited for leaving school and make a new start in High School and to make new friends.

High School

All the p7 on Islay and Jura came to high school for transition days. On Thursday we had to go on the groups that were picked on Wednesday which were MW and BM.  There was three house Bryce Winnard & McBean.  For lunch we had a choice of what to eat for example; chicken burgers, hot dogs, macaroni cheese and lots more. We had lots of periods most of them were just us inducing to our teacher. Unfortunately our Gaelic teacher Mr Bond is not going to be there when we go to high school because were getting another Gaelic teacher.  At lunch there was the boys and girls football club and we picked teams and started playing football against each other. We also did P.E with Miss Gibson.

Port Ellen And Bowmore Beach Day

On Friday 23rd June Port Ellen and Bommore had a beach day down at the White Hart beach.  It was the whole school from each school.  When we got there we all mixed in with each other.

In the afternoon we went to get our lunch. Then we had to do a sand castle competition, but a castle didn’t win, the wining group made a boat.  There were two boats but the one that won had a dolphin in it.

We had a match of football and rounders. In the rounders we did mixed teams, but in the football we did Port Ellen VS Bommore and Port Ellen won by one goal.

It was a great and a very fun day.
