week beginning 9.1.17

Welcome back and Happy New Year!!

We hope you have had a lovely winter holiday and have enjoyed your time off. We are happy to see everyone after the new year and are looking forward to starting our term.
In the spirit of new year we have all set our own targets for improving ourselves in language, maths and in our own health and well-being.

This week we have introduced our new topic, Scotland. Next week We will be becoming more familiar with countries and main cities within the U.K.
We have also handed out Burn’s Poems for our upcoming competition. While it is not a requirement to take part in the competition all children must learn the poem they have selected. We will be learning about the language in class reading and developing our Scot’s Vocabulary. Please could your child bring their poem to school and could you also help them to practice at home.

We will be handing out class talk homework also. This will be done in stages so not everyone will have their talks at the same time, please do not be alarmed if your child does not get a talk letter this week as it may just mean they will in the following weeks.

Reminders:

Look out for our newsletter as there is a change to our time table. We will have indoor P.E on Wednesday and outdoor P.E on Thursday.
Please ensure that all uniform and kit is labelled with your child’s name
There are lots of items of uniform left in the class that are not being claimed and others who have lost named pieces that they cannot find. Please could you all check that your child has taken the correct items home and that they are not missing anything.

Homework:
Reading – refer to task sheet for activities to match
Spelling
Burn’s Poem
Class talks (for children with letters)

Thank you,
The Primary 4 teachers

Primary 4 week beginning 21.11.16

This week we have been very busy with our Enterprise topic. The children have started to focus on job roles within a business, they have even written job application forms for the roles they would like to do. We have also been using the computers to research what we will need to create our product and have been discussing the best products to use.

The Christmas Fair is fast approaching so we have started our Christmas crafts which will be displayed in the hall on the night. The fair is on Friday 2nd December and we would love to see you all there.

As we did not have P.E this week we will be having an extra session next week on Wednesday so please provide P.E kit for Wednesday and Thursday, thank you.

It has been a very cold week and children have needed gloves, scarfs and hats. To ensure that these don’t get lost or misplaced it would be very helpful if on the labels they could be named.

Next week we are excited that we will be able to go and watch the dress rehearsal for the P2/3 Nativity show. Please wrap up warm as we will be walking to the church.

Reminders:
P.E kit on Wednesday and Thursday

Homework:
Spelling as normal
Maths sheets – both classes
Reading (please see homework diaries or homework grid on previous blog)

We hope to see you at the Fair! Thank you for your continued support,

Primary 4 week beginning 31.10.16

We hope you enjoyed the Halloween weekend. We were glad to see so many of you at the school disco. The costumes were fabulous!!

This week we have been focusing on RME and linking this to our science topic about water.
We have been learning about how water is used in religion, particularly in ceremonies and prayer. We are now beginning to look at special buildings in world religions and are discussing and highlighting their features.

We have also begun our guided reading sessions in class. The children are following structured reading sessions that include independent writing tasks, reading with their group and discussions with the teacher about their story. We are setting homework to support the learning happening in the classroom.

After school clubs are now up and running and we would like to remind parents that the children play in the playground until 3:30 pm before clubs start. Clubs finish at 4:30, with the exception of homework club (it has a 4:15 pm finish).

Next week we will be sending out a table detailing the homework up until the winter break. Please refer to this if unsure about tasks. The diaries will still be used as plans may change and maths homework will be added to the diaries.

Homework due Friday 11th November (please see document attached for group reading):
Spelling
Reading – (see table)
Skye Boat song

Welcome to the primary 4 blog,

we have had an exciting week in Primary 4. We began our week with a visit from the Vikings! We have learned lots of interesting facts about the lifestyles of Vikings. The children got to hold real artifacts, see weapons and listen to old tales about the Viking gods.

We have also had our Viking Bake Off this week. The children worked in teams to measure ingredients and follow the recipe to make Viking bread. We are grateful to Mr Shanks and Mr Grieg who came in to be our guest judging panel! They gave the children full reviews on their baking and chose a winning team from each class. All the children enjoyed this and loved taking part in this activity.

We want to thank you for attending this weeks Parent’s evenings. We hope you enjoyed looking at the children’s work and our Viking breads.
We hope you enjoy the holidays and we will see you back at school on Tuesday 25th October. We would also like to apologise for the confusion about when big homework is due. We would appreciate it if you could hand in big homework when you return on Tuesday the 25th, not the 21st as we wrote on the letter.
When we return we will be continuing library books but also introducing our guided reading novels. You should expect assigned reading each week. We would be grateful if you could support and listen to your child reading this.

Have a wonderful holiday, stay safe!

Thank you, the P4 teachers.

We hope you all enjoyed your long weekend. This has been a short week for us and we have begun practising for our school Harvest Assembly. This assembly is not a parent one but one for the children. Please look out for any speaking parts and help your child practise at home.

It was great to see some of you at our Residential information evening. Please if you have any further questions do not hesitate to ask us.

Next week is our assessment week, whereby children will be working in one jotter to give us a snapshot view of their abilities in all areas of the curriculum. These will be on display at Parent’s night for your perusal.

We have completed our Vikings for the frieze also. see below for the pictures as promised.

Happy new year!

Welcome back to school! Hope you all had a lovely holiday and are excited for the New Year. This term our topic will be Dinosaurs. We will begin our topic this week and use this to develop our writing and researching skills. We will also use this as a theme for Art, Drama, Music and Technology.

In Numeracy we will continue to develop addition and begin subtraction. We will continue to develop an awareness of numbers and their place value along with problem solving mental maths strategies. We will also focus on telling the time and measuring length this term.

We would like to remind parents that indoor P.E with Mrs Ferguson will take place on a Thursday. Please ensure your child has appropriate gym wear and check that gym rubbers are well fitted. We would also like to remind you that children should not bring juice in their water bottles for P.E and class time.

The Burn’s Poetry Competition will take place on the 22nd of January. Please help your child to learn one of the poems given. There will be winners selected from Primary 1 to perform at the school assembly on that day. Please have your poems ready for the 21st so that we can choose the winners from each class. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask one of the teachers.

Thank you for reading,
The Primary 1 teachers
