What’s the Time P1/2?

This week, P1/2 have been practising reading o’clock times on both analogue and digital clocks.  We are getting really good at it!

We have also been practising our subtraction sums this week. We know that the bigger number has to go first in a take away sum.  Look at how clever we are!

We enjoyed practising ordering our numbers and revising our number stories of 7.

In our sounds work we have been using our sounds to make and spell words, practising saying and ordering the letters of the alphabet and have been working on generating words that rhyme with ‘at’.

Part of our homework choices this week was to help someone at home with a bit of gardening and to plant some flowers.  Amy brought in some super pictures of her busy in the garden which she enjoyed sharing with the rest of the class.  Great job!  Also, Feliks brought in a photo of him with the beanstalk which he planted in class.  He has obviously been looking after it really well as it is growing really tall now.  Well done!

Great work Primary 1/2.  Well done!

P2/3 Reflections

This morning we took a bit of time to reflect on our learning from last week and to think about what we are looking forward to learning about this week.

Ryan enjoyed starting to learn about Roman houses last week and Alexander is looking forward to finding out more about the Romans and their houses this week.

Sandee was pleased with her work on adding 2 digit numbers last week and is going to build on those skills this week.

Chloe and Jodie are both looking forward to their learning in maths this week.

Niamh was pleased with her ability in gymnastics last week as she thought she was doing things better.

Paul is enjoying the challenge of thinking of different strategies in number talks to help him add 19 to different numbers.

We are all looking forward to a busy week of learning!

A busy week in Primary One

This week, we have been really busy working on our reading skills! Miss Rodford has been impressed with our blending skills!

We have also been working on our spelling skills and been practising blending three letter words!

We have also been revising our number facts for 6 and 7 and learning to count and write numbers up to 17!

On Thursday, we started a science investigation and we wanted to find out if plants would grow differently in different places or without certian things like water or soil.  We all made super predictions about the beans …

‘I think the bean which has soil, water and sunlight will grow because it has all the things it needs to grow’ – Hannah

‘I think the bean without water won’t grow becsue plants need water to survive’ – Rosie

Mathematicians and Scientists in P1/2!

This week P1/2 have enjoyed revising their number stories of 6 and 7.  The boys and girls have been practising working independently and have been impressing Mrs Lloyd!

We also planned out a science experiment to explore seeds being grown in different conditions.  We planted five seeds and predicted which seeds will grow and which ones wont.  We have some of the seeds in the dark in the cupboard and some of the seeds are on the window ledge – some will be watered and some will not be watered.  We are going to keep an eye on these to see which of our predictions are correct.

Finally, thank you again to Chloe Snape’s gran who kindly gave up her time to come and read to some of the boys and girls in P1/2.  The children throughly enjoy hearing stories and learning new vocabulary from the stories and we really appreciate you coming in to work with us.

Maths is number picking good!

P4/5 have been outside practising their fraction skills in the playground. We used our metre sticks to measure out a line 100cm long then split it up into equal amounts to create our fractions. We then marked our fractions on the lines. Pairs swapped over to work out what the fractions on the line were and to check each others work. It was great fun and gave us another way to practise our maths skills.

Uke out!! P4/5 musicians at large!!

P4 have been practising their ukulele skills over the past few weeks and have thoroughly enjoyed their time with Gordon who has been their instructor. They’ve practised different chords, kept time by clapping along to music and can sing and play a variety of songs- very impressive! Everyone is looking forward to our Ukulele Fling at Howden Park Centre on Monday where they will be meeting up to all play together. Uke out Howden Park!!

P2/3 World Book Day Fun!

P2/3 had great fun yesterday for World Book Day.  It was fantastic to see so many different book characters in the classroom.

At assembly we had chosen a group to perform a drama based on The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig.  They performed confidently and we were very proud of them.

In class we developed our team work skills when we completed the World Book Day Quiz.  Mrs Thomson was impressed with our knowledge of different books and we found some new books that we would like to read.  We assessed our team working skills at the end and decided that we still need to work on this.  We hope to develop our skills further over the next few weeks.

We created book covers for our favourite books after reading Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book and enjoyed it when P7 came to visit and read with us.  All this and having to be prepared for the reading alarms that kept sounding during the day kept us busy!

World book day

Well done to all of the P2 pupils who dressed up for World Book Day. You all looked amazing!

Congratulations to our stars who performed a short drama sketch at the school assembly to show the story of ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’.  You all showed fantastic confidence and were proud to be on stage.

It was lovely to have P6 join us for some buddy reading. P2 enjoyed reading to their buddies and having some trickier stories read to them.

For science this week, we tested materials to find out which materials are waterproof. Each group showed excellent team working skills and had fantastic discussions around whether some of the materials really were waterproof or not.

After a week of trying really hard to earn lots of Goblet of Good Manners post-its, P2 won the Goblet of Good Manners trophy today!

March’s ‘Right of the Month’ – Article 12

March’s Right of the Month is  …

Article 12
You have the right to give your opinion, and for adults to listen and take it seriously.

It is important that all children get the chance give their opinions in decisions that involve them!
It gives you the confidence to speak out and know that adults are listening to you!
It can help you to make a change for the better either at home or at school.

Being able to give your opinion as a child is good practise and will help you to be able to make important decisions as an adult e.g. voting

There might be things going on in the world that you might agree/not agree with!

Wonderful World Book Day in P1/2

Another fun filled week in P1/2.  In maths this week we have been working on the number stories of 6 and 7 and have been using cubes and counters to help us to work out the missing numbers in sums.

We received a letter from Sir Helpalot who has asked us to build him a strong castle.  After discussion in the class, P1/2 came up with the idea of building castle models to help keep him safe.  He also left us a clue and after a while we managed to work out that he wanted us to read Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  We read the story and had lots of fun in the structured play area around the theme.

We had super fun on world book day and enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters as well as talking about why we like bedtime stories, voting on our favourite fairytale and reading books in the library.  We also had an extra special treat when P5/6 came down to read to us.  It was so much fun!
