As this week is science week, P1 have been busy learning about floating and sinking. We devised a floating and sinking experiment using a variety of fruits and predicted whether the different fruits would float or sink. Yesterday, we carried out our experiment and recorded our results. Harvey thought the experiment was amazing while Izaak found the results really puzzling!

Outdoor Maths!
Mrs Lloyd’s maths group had fun in the sun last week when we were using the outdoor area to work on our counting in twos. The children were split up into four groups and rotated around a variety of activities to practise their skills in counting on in twos. One group, used the big number lines to jump forward and backwards in twos, another group painted numbers with water and counted on, another group used chalk to practise jumping in twos and the last group enjoyed a seat at the picnic table with their whiteboards and showed off how good they were at counting in twos. Good work everyone!!

Primary 6 were secret agents this week!
This week in Primary 6…
We were set a secret mission by Jamie Bond to investigate how air resistance affects motion. This meant we carried out two experiments – one creating a spinner and one making parachutes. Kai really enjoyed making three different sized parachutes. Charlize liked making the spinners to test air resistance with Mrs Lough. Owen learned that the bigger surface area an object has, the slower it will fall.
In Maths Steven found symmetry difficult to begin with but slowly has got the hang of it and can even create symmetrical patterns. Stephanie T enjoyed creating a pie chart from a survey about school uniform. Billy enjoyed measuring using an interactive game.
Ewan thoroughly enjoyed making the most of the sunshine and joining with P6/7 for an hour of rounders. I think everyone agrees with Ewan! Hopefully if the weather continues we can do this every week! Mrs M will NOT be wearing high heels next time however!
P2 and P2/3 Foodbank Collection
P2 have been thinking about how they can help others as part of our ‘Wants and Needs’ topic. We thought that we could help by collecting food for a local food bank.
The children have been busy making posters to advertise our event and we are going to visiting the classes to tell everybody what they could bring in.
We are going to be collecting food for the next two weeks until Friday the 8th of May.
Things that you could bring in …
- tinned fruit
- tinned beans and pasta
- dried pasta
- cereals
- biscuits
- UHT milk
- fruit juice
- tins of soup
- tinned meat
- rice
Can you help P2 AND P2/3
Thank you !
Sunshine Maths!
Mrs Lloyd’s maths group had fun in the sun today when we were outside counting in 2’s, getting into groups to show either an odd or an even number, running to the correct side of the playground when either an odd or an even number was called and using the natural environment to collect and find groups of objects and deciding if they had collected an odd or an even number. It was a lovely morning and made maths even more fun!!

What’s the Time P1a?
Over the past two weeks, Miss Hewit has been teaching the class about telling the time on analogue clocks. She has been concentrating on o’clock times and has been very impressed with how well the children are doing both with reading the times and setting the hands on the clocks to show a variety of o’clock times. Today the children played some time games on the laptops and smartboard and were even making their own paper plate clock. Here are some photos of the children in action! Well done everyone.
Dobbies Visit P1a
Today, we were very lucky to be visitied by Laura from Dobbies. She taught us lots of different things about plants and berries and even brought in some blueberries and raspberries for us to taste – they were yummy! After our tasting, she let us plant a broad bean which we were allowed to take home. We need to make sure we put our bean somewhere where it will gets lots of sunlight and need to remember to water it regularly. It would be great to have some photos of the beans sent in as they are growing. I wonder whose bean will grow the tallest? The competition is on!!!
