P.E.

Our teacher always put us through a fast pace warm up which means we are tired out before the main part of the lesson.  We were practising shooting into the basketball net and some of us managed to score a basket unfortunately Mrs Sinclair didn’t.

Wonderful Wellbeing @ Bankton

Pupils from across all stages of the school have been working in vertical groups this week with a focus on the Wellbeing Indicators. Everyone has enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends within each group. Mrs. Ferguson and I have particularly enjoyed working with children from all classes.

Health and Wellbeing is EVERYONE'S responsibility @ Bankton

We have developed lots of different skills co-operatively in groups to decide what each of the wellbeing indicators look like in OUR SCHOOL.

Some groups used ipads for filming video clips and raps while others made spinners, had quizzes and made up Acrostic Poems. Teachers and pupils are looking forward to developing these groups as part of our ‘Thinking Thursdays’ this term and next.

Many thanks to Mrs. Reilly, our talented PSW who worked with pupils to co-ordinate our Wellbeing display. We hope you will stop to read our speech bubbles on Parents’ Evening!

100th Collection of the Bankton Credit Union

On Friday, 6th March we celebrated the 100th collection of the Credit Union here in Bankton This valuable organisation is run by our valued Parent Council Members and Parent helpers who freely give up their time to help our children understand the importance of saving for things you want. There were balloons and prizes for savers who made a deposit today and all new members are given a piggy bank with their first deposit.

If you are unsure of the purpose of the Credit Union, please check out the flier in our useful documents section of the Home Page.

Well done and thank you to our wonderful helpers who worked hard to celebrate this great occasion with the children. Come and join any Friday morning and you too will learn that money may not grow in trees – but it will when you save with the credit Union!

Burns Competition Certificates of Achievement

A group of pupils from Bankton represented their school to the highest standard at the West Lothian Heat of the National Burns Federation Competition, held in St. Kentigern’s Academy on Wednesday, 6th March.

Louis Hartl-Hazette played Auld Lang Syne very competently on the trumpet – I’m sure Mrs. Scobie, our brass tutor would have been very proud of you!

Katie Tripney, Kai Wilson and Beth Kinroy performed Burns’ poetry from ‘A parcel of rogues among nations’ to ‘The Joyful Widower’ and ‘Scots Wha Hae’. Our youngest performer, Eric McLeod from P.4 brought some humour with his Scottish poem. All children performed their poem with drama and great attention to the meaning of Scots language. Mrs. Ferguson and I were extremely proud of our Bankton Champs!

Well done everyone!

Fun at James Young for P4

Everyone enjoyed visiting the C.D.T. department at James Young High School on Thursday 26th February. We learned about the different types of saw- circular saw, jigsaw, band saw. We also learned about how a pillar drill and a belt sander worked. There are lots of different types of wood that you can work with- lime, oak, spruce, birch and pine. You can also work with M.D.F. which stands for medium density fibreboard. This isn’t wood but it is made from sawdust and other things and is mixed and glued together- a bit like mixing tablet. Thanks to Mr MacMillan and Mr Leishman for letting us have a look around the department. We were very lucky to get a souvenir from our visit. We actually watched the laser cutter cut out dinosaurs from a sheet of plastic and were lucky enough to get one each. Thank you very much. We are now looking forward to designing and making our model Viking boats.

Working hard in P1/2

Primary 1/2 have had a busy week.  We have been continuing with our castles topic and had a go at working in groups to build a castle using the different construction materials we had (Lego, cubes, wooden blocks etc.).  Once we had finished them we had to test how strong they were.  We decided we would throw a ball at them to see how strong they were, Mrs Thomson managed to knock down quite a few!!!  Our next step is to decide which materials were strongest and see if we can build some that will stand up to Mrs Thomson’s attack!

World Book Day !!!

P2 were looking alittle different today !! They transformed into their  favourite book characters !!

Even Miss Rodford had dressed up as Peter Pan.

We had great fun talking about our characters and the books that they came from.

What characters can you spot in the pictures???
