Seasons in ELC

The last couple of weeks we have been learning about the seasons and talking about Autumn and the changes in the weather.

We have experienced this when we have been outside as part of our “Muddy Mondays” , as well as our daily outdoor play. We have been noticing over the weeks the changes in the world around us, leaves changing and a change in the temperature!

We have been doing autumn, jigsaws, reading seasonal stories and gluing, drawing and painting some lovely autumnal pictures!

We have seasons activities set up outside and inside, like our small world house. We also have been doing some autumn songs, and drama in gym and using the colour magic computer program to draw seasonal trees.

W can’t wait to share our learning with you next week at stay and play – please add your name to the whiteboardย if you can make it!

ELC Stay and Play

In the last week before the holidays we had stay and play sessions where we welcomed parents and carers in to share our ELC learning and experiences.

A huge thank you to all who joined us, the children loved having you in to play!

This is a great opportunity for you to share your childs learning with them, speak to theย ELC staff, meet other parents/carersย and have a look at their folder and displays in ELC.

We do these stay and play sessions termly so keep an eye out on the board for the next days.

At the moment we are also looking for some parent/carer feedback using our “feedback tree” in the cloakroom – Please add any thoughts or suggestions onto a wooden spoon and hang it on a branch! We love hearing your feedback.

Muddy Mondays!

We had our first “Muddy Mondays” on Monday 23rd!

We explored our school grounds using the Mugga, the new path round the back of the school and played in the infant playground!

We then had snack and a story outdoors in our wooded area, and explored!

We found lots of interesting things from the outdoors, and brought some back to have a look at them in our ELC.

Nursery Rhymes

We have been learning lots about different Nursery Rhymes. In our ELC we have made a Nursery rhyme area, with books, jigsaws, song words and pictures and puppets so support our learning. We have also made some of our own song bags too.

Everyday at our gather times we have been singing different nursery rhymes and sometimes using the smart board to sing them too!

The ELC4 children at computers this week have been drawing pictures of humpty dumpty using the computer programme colour magic.

This week we have also been doing some potato printing with potatoes out our nursery garden to make humpty dumpty pictures!

If anyone has anything Nursery Rhyme related they would like to bring in, we would love to see it!

Following our own interest

The children last week have taken an interest in drawing treasure maps!

We have followed this interest by developing an area with maps, pirate ships, making “treasure” and we might even go on a treasure hunt one day…..

Harvesting food!

We have been harvesting food from our garden this week.ย  So far we have got 2 different types of potatoes and beetroot!

We have been keeping an eye on our apples on our apple tree and our tomatoes and they are both nearly ready too!

Please help yourselves to these foods in our cloakroom to take home, we would love to see any pictures of you cooking or eating them!

ELC settling in

We have had a busy first couple of weeks in ELC settling into our new routines and rules.

Lots of changes have happened over the summer in our ELC, with a new cloakroom area, a covered outdoor area and now some children stay all day in ELC and have lunch.

We have also welcomed new staff members in ELC, please come and say hello!

This term we are also learning about Nursery Rhymes. Mrs Ramage used the “talking tub” to find out what Nursery Rhymes we already know and what ones we would like to sing.

Please leave a comment on our posts and share photos with your child, we love to hear your views!

Primary 1 Junk Model Street

Primary 1 had lots of fun on Friday designing, building and decorating their junk model buildings. The children had some super ideas and made houses, hotels, hospitals, police stations and shops. They had to be creative and use their problem solving skills as they worked out how to attach the boxes securely to each other.

Then we put the buildings together to make a street. We enjoyed walking down the street. Can you spot yours?
