Christmas Newsletter

It has been a particularly hectic but rewarding last few months at Chryston High School.  Students from S1 to S6 have been involved in  a variety of charity and extra curricular projects, raising a phenomenal amount of money and donations in the process.  Please find details of these alongside information regarding key future dates and our new attendance procedures in the link below.

Christmas News 2017

Finally, on behalf of everyone at Chryston High School, we wish you a happy, peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

Updated Attendance Procedures

We are in the process of introducing new attendance monitoring procedures and I hope you will bear with us while we iron out teething problems.  I have outlined the new procedures for your information:

  1. If your child does not attend class period 1, the class teacher will mark him/her not in class.
  2. A text message will be sent to the main parental contact stating “(Child’s name) did not register at school this morning (date).
  3. You should reply to the text message.
  4. Upon receiving your text, the register will be changed to the appropriate absence code.

Advantages

You will be able to be alerted if your child is not in school and you think they are.

You won’t need to provide an absence note for the pupil forum teacher.  Most notes become lost forever in bags or blazer pockets.

Pupil Support teachers will see your messages sooner and be able to act on them quicker if there are any concerns.

Disadvantage

If the register is not completed, you may receive a text message.  If you do, reply to the text or phone the school. We do make mistakes but we will learn from them.

We hope to have the procedures in place by the start of next term.

If you would like to give us your opinion please email attendance@chrystonhigh.n-lanark.sch.uk

It was great to meet the parents and families of our Primary 7 children last night and we are looking forward to working with them in the future.

Please follow the link to a numeracy support pack from our maths department.  It includes some numeracy tasks that parents can do with their children.  Sharing in your child’s learning helps them to develop confidence.  This pack should give you some activities that you can enjoy with your child while helping them develop numeracy skills.  Numeracy skills are essential in all areas of the curriculum and in everyday life.
