Bottle rocket

When the primary sevens where away we made bottle rockets. We got all of the things we needed. We needed a bottle something to make the wings out of, a cone ,a pump, water and a cork.

We got the bottle and glue gunned the wings to it so that it will go higher. We then got a bit of paper and cut a circle and made a cut into the middle and made it into a cone. And we stuck it on the bottom we the decorated it a little. We then made stand for it we had a cup and cut a hole in it and pushed the pump through we then had to put some marbles to weigh it down.

We then took it outside and before we filled it with 500 ml of water then put a cork with a hole in it in the bottle and then we attached the pump to it. You have to pump it quick and fast and then it shoots up to the sky.

Bottle rocket

When the primary 7s were away the 6s made a bottle rocket it worked pretty well. We brung in a bottle each but we ended up doing the one we got all the materials we needed then started.

We needed a 2l bottle, a cone out of card, a strong material for the rocket wings, a cork and a pump. We used a glue gun and stuck the wings on the bottle we cut a circle out of card then put a cut into the middle. We used duck tape and used seletape. To stick the cone into the bottle of the bottle and checked it was the right size. Both of us had to make something to keep it standing so we used a full tub of marbles into the cup. We put a hole onto the cork so it was the right fitting for the pump. One of us hooded the rocket and the other one of us put 500ml of water Into the bottle.

Then we took it outside and took a few attempts it worked but every time Mr. Johnston had done it it went higher and higher the last time when the primary 2-5 came out.

Sports day 2017

Banton sports day

About two weeks ago Banton primary had a sports day were we had single races and team races.

We did a few races like sack race, sprint, hurdles and the egg and spoon race. For the team races we had a relay race. And an obstacle course.

The order we did the sports day In was every event went from p1 -7. At the end there was a toddler race and class winners

We really enjoyed sports day because it gave us a chance to do something different and better than class work.

Biggies Spring Watch

Last Wednesday we went down to Andrew Dows wood to see the different things about spring there were loads of animals and nature. Mr and Mrs Carter took us because they knew a lot more than we know about nature and animals. There was much to learn, about loads of parts in the woods. We learned about some birds and we heard more than we saw.

Insects

The insects we saw, there were butterflies. One species was orange tip.  the difference between then are the males have the little bronze bit at the tip of their wings and the females have a light green bit under their wings. We saw dancing midges that do not bite but other midges will bite. We saw bees getting pollen.

Flowers

We saw yellow gorse bush and it smelled like coconuts.
We also saw bluebells and butter cups and a king cup which is bigger than a butter cup and grows in the marsh.
We also saw violets and lots of lovely beeees!!!!!!
Collecting pollen and nectar. We saw cherry blossom.

Trees

We saw a tree that was giant it was in school woods. We got three people to stand around the tree and link arms and measure how long our arms together would be together and it came to about 5 meters. We then put our arm 45 degrees until it looked like we touched the top of the tree then we took about meter steps and how many steps we took it would be the height of the tree and we got 25 so the tree is about 25 meters high. It grows 2 cm a year. The trees we saw were beech trees, birch trees, Rowen trees , hawthorn trees and blossoming trees.

Birds

We heard loads of birds even some from Africa like the blackcap and chiffchaff. The reason why the blackcap is called this name is because it has Markings on its face like a blackcap on your head and it is the same with the chiffchaff it is called the chiffchaff because they make a noise that says chiffchaff. There was also a buzzard flying over the area scanning it for prey to eat. We also heard a great tit saying teacher.
