Learning Beyond the School Gates
At Inverkip Primary School and Nursery Class, we are proud to be at the heart of our village. We believe that strong community partnerships enrich children’s learning, strengthen relationships and help our young people understand that they can make a positive difference to the place where they live.
Our partnerships extend learning far beyond the classroom. We work closely with local organisations, families, businesses and wider services to provide meaningful experiences, specialist support and opportunities for our children to contribute to their community.
Throughout the year, our children may work alongside partners such as Blooming Inverkip, Compassionate Inverclyde, Inverkip Community Hub, our Parent Group, Active Schools, Inverclyde Communication Outreach Service (ICOS), Educational Psychology, Action for Children and other local and authority services. We also build links with local businesses, charities and community groups as opportunities arise.
These partnerships support many different aspects of school and nursery life — from outdoor learning, health and wellbeing, sport and sustainability to literacy, STEM, family learning, inclusion and community projects.
Our Leadership Committees are another important part of this work. Children across the school and nursery are encouraged to look beyond our gates, identify ways they can contribute and work with community partners to turn their ideas into action. Whether supporting a local cause, improving our environment, promoting children’s rights or organising an event, we want our children to experience what it means to be active and responsible members of their community.
Our Parent Group and wider network of PVG volunteers are also invaluable partners. They support fundraising and school events, but increasingly also help us with trips, activities and opportunities that enhance children’s experiences across the school and nursery.
For us, partnership is not about inviting the community into school once or twice a year. It is about making the most of the people, places and expertise around us and ensuring that our children see Inverkip itself as part of their classroom.
By working together, we can offer our children richer experiences, stronger connections and a genuine sense of belonging.
