As part of our 1 + 2 Languages, we have been learning Gaelic as well as French. We are making a Gaelic picture dictionary to record new words we have learned.
It turns out that we use a lot more Gaelic than we think!
- Loch as in Loch Lomond means lake.
- Ben as in Ben Nevis means mountain.
- Dun as in Dundee means fort.
- Bal as in Balloch means town.
- Kil as in Kilmarnock means church.
- Glen is also the Gaelic word for valley.
Madainn mhath means good morning!
Feasgar math means good afternoon!
Alba = Scotland and Grianaig = Greenock
