Gaelic

As part of our 1 + 2 Languages, we have been learning Gaelic as well as French. We are making a Gaelic picture dictionary to record new words we have learned.

It turns out that we use a lot more Gaelic than we think!

  • Loch as in Loch Lomond means lake.
  • Ben as in Ben Nevis means mountain.
  • Dun as in Dundee means fort.
  • Bal as in Balloch means town.
  • Kil as in Kilmarnock means church.
  • Glen is also the Gaelic word for valley.

Madainn mhath means good morning!

Feasgar math means good afternoon!

Alba = Scotland and Grianaig = Greenock

Failte gu Grianaig!
