IDL – creating paper mache turnips

Effective contributors/successful learners

The Snowdrops have been exploring different textures to art materials to create a turnip which we have been hearing about in our theme story The Enormous Turnip.  Everyone helped to tear strips of newspaper and then we mixed flour and water to make a mache paste.  We painted balloons with mache and covered the balloon in strips of newspaper.  It has been very messy fun!

The Snowdrops have been looking at large photos of their new class friends.  We have all created friendship boards to take home and a large class poster.  The Snowdrops can recognise our Willowbank school badge and our class snowdrop picture.  We have been practising saying or signing all the names of our class friends too.

Exploring Foods with Seeds

The Moonbeams were successful learners this week as they explored foods with seeds. They cut and tore a variety of fruit and vegetables to find seeds and discover their size and texture. The children used magnifying glasses to get a closer look at the smaller seeds. The Moonbeams really enjoyed this messy lesson.
