We had a fantastic afternoon celebrating Robert Burns, we enjoyed our Burns Supper and then had a great time dancing the afternoon away at our Ceilidh.
We were very proud of Jack and Blake, they said and signed the Selkirk Grace and were confident individuals.
We were successful learners when we performed our Oak dance, the Gay Gordons.
We also sang and signed the ‘Flower of Scotland’ to everyone at the Ceilidh.
Happy Burns Day everyone!

Today we had fun exploring different Scottish traditions and created our own tartan using strips of coloured paper.
We were confident individuals trying to independently cut, glue and stick the paper.

The Bluebells class spent some time working on their ILP targets today. We completed a range of literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing tasks including listening jobs, matching shapes, sharing out bricks with our peers, sharing out pizza into equal slices and playing a game of “duck, duck, goose”.

This week we made kilts using strips of paper to create a tartan design on them. We also used paint and rollers to create a paint tartan design. We had to roll the roller in a straight line to create our designs.

The Moonbeams have enjoyed learning about what birds eat this week. The pupils explored birds seeds and then mixed up some ingredients to create Bird Feeders. The children all really enjoyed this learning activity and worked well together. Our plan is to hang the feeders in the garden and check everyday to see if the birds are eating from them. We hope the birds enjoy their food!

After watching and learning about all the animals that have been affected by the fires in Australia, we decided to help the animals that live around us. We made food chains out of pipe cleaners and Cheerios, then hung them out in the sensory garden.

Sean and Skye completed an obstacle course this week as part of our SQA unit on communications skills. Sean and Skye had to listen carefully to instructions from staff at each station and respond appropriately. At first, both pupils needed physical support at each station to follow the instruction but after a few times round the course Sean and Skye began to use their initiative to try each station independently with only verbal prompts. Well done, guys! Two successful learners!

The Beech pupils were responsible citizens this week as we made a shopping list for our Burns Supper and took a trip on the public bus to Asda!
The pupils took turns to find an item on the list using the signs and symbols around us to help us. We then checked each item off our list and used a self-service check-out to pay for our items. Staff were very impressed with the our young people’s independence!

The Stars class had fun creating paper boats and checking whether they would float or not. Thankfully they did! We will take our boating pond outside in the better weather. We enjoyed Burns activities this week making oatcakes and a Robert Burns silhouette picture. The Scottish songs were good too.
