Outdoor Learning Week

Confident individuals/ effective contributors/ Responsible citizens

We have had lots of fun this week for outdoor learning week. We enjoyed a walk to the Kay park and had our snack and did some yoga. Everyone was very responsible and tidied up our rubbish and brought it back to school to put in the bin.  Miss Hill brought in a tent and we pretended to have a camp fire and toast marshmallows.  We also enjoyed looking at the clouds, catching the rain and a sensory colour hunt in the garden. We all love being outside so lots of happy Bluebells.

50 things outdoors – rain

The Bluebells experienced the rain last week. We made cloud viewers and went out to look at the sky and experience the rain on our face.  The rain was not heavy so we did not manage to splash in any puddles.  We also explored how rain is created by completing the rain in a jar science experiment.

50 things outdoors – Windswept

We explored  wind whilst being outdoors. We experienced the wind on our face and how when it is strong it may blow objects around outside. We made our own wind sock to explore what would happen on a windy day. We took our wind socks outside and watched as the wind blew the tissue paper streamers  at the bottom.  The wind can sometimes blow rubbish into our outdoor area and we are responsible citizens and will tidy up.

50 things outdoors- bird watching

The Bluebells make binoculars to use and look up at the sky to find birds. They were confident individuals and were able to use their fine motor skills to peel and attach stickers to decorate their binoculars. We even used some real binoculars from the science box to look for birds. We could see sea gulls in the sky.

Global Goal 16

Peace, justice and strong institutions.

We voted for a class president and vice president to help with some helper jobs and be effective contributors in the class. We were able to make posters saying vote for and our name. We chose pictures for them and were  confident individuals able to hold then up for all the class to see. We voted using a ballot paper with pictures of everyone on it. We then counted the votes to see who won.

Successful Learners

To end our fairytale theme, the Sunflower’s have engaged in a variety of character games to consolidate their learning.  Whilst practicing using our SMARTboard, everyone took turns at selecting the correct character.  Each child, demonstrated excellent listening skills and were able to point to or name the character they heard.

POLO Day!

The Snowdrops have enjoyed taking part in POLO day.

This morning we were scientists and we were investigating whether different objects were able to float or sink when they were placed in water. We tried to guess what would happen and recorded our guesses and what actually happened, on our worksheet.

This afternoon, we were making some outdoor cuisine using recipe cards! With some help we used good looking skills to collect ingredients and then practised following instructions to make our dishes.

Lots of outdoor fun was had!

Confident Individuals – Power Off Learn Outdoors

Friday was POLO day and the Transition class threw themselves right into it. They were Confident Individuals taking part in a variety of activities. In the morning there was water play which involved throwing water balloons and spraying water onto a target. The target quite quickly became each other and the boys took part in a fun water fight. A water fight was one of their 50 Things to do in the Outdoors outcomes and each boy completed it well! Mr Nicoll was a major target throughout the battle!! The boys were also Responsible Citizens by ensuring that the area was tidy after all the water balloons had been thrown. The afternoon was much more calm when we turned our hand to Croquet and practiced hitting the ball towards the target. It turned out to be harder than we thought to hit the ball with a wooden mallet.

POLO Day Activities

*Confident Individuals    *Effective Contributors

We did some activities this week ahead of POLO Day. We painted patterns with water and watered our planter where we are growing onions, potatoes, carrots, strawberries, nasturtiums and sweet peas. Our gladioli bulbs are starting to grow too. We made symmetrical butterfly pictures in anticipation of making a large symmetrical floor pattern today. Today we also made a water wheel (which worked really well!) and created nature’s crowns.
