Volley Ball Numeracy in the Pine Room

We had great fun playing Balloon Volley Ball in Numeracy this week, we were very successful learners! We counted the balloons, counted the bounces, identified the colours, we practised our gross motor skills by throwing them up in the air, hitting  and kicking them  – all while doing our MOVE – what great exercise.

Biscuit making for SQA Baking – we worked on handling the dough.

This week’s literacy letter was ‘U’.

We made lovely umbrella pictures for our books, and enjoyed listening to the  Letter U song – challenge how many words can you think of that start with the letter U?

The Letter U

Have a lovely relaxing weekend everyone

FAOL Science – Floating and Sinking

The Asteroids have been confident individuals during our science lesson on floating and sinking.

Firstly we made predictions about whether different objects would float or sink. After we predicted, we tested it out and recorded the results. Did it float or did it sink?

Then we talked about pirate ships and what would happen if the pirates found too much treasure and their ships sunk? We used pennies to try this out.

To test how many pennies it would take to make a pirate ship sink,  we firstly make confident choices about which  recyclable plastic container we wanted to use as our pirate ships.

Then we tried to predict how many coins it would take to sink our own ships. Test time: we had great fun filling our ships with coins and counting how many our ships took till they sunk. We noticed that bigger ships took more coins than smaller ships to sink!

Well done, Asteroids!

Stars Dinosaur Fossil – FAOL – Sciences

*Successful Learners      *Effective Contributors

After watching a short video which told us about fossils we followed instructions to make salt dough. We used a roller to make dough squares then left a dinosaur imprint using a small plastic toy. We baked the dough in the oven to dry and were very pleased at how authentic they looked.

The Snowdrops have enjoyed looking a various digital technologies in class.  Through using switches, i-pads, bee bots, sensory technology, remote control toys and the Promethean board, we have been able to access, enjoy and develop our learning through the use of technology.

Everyone enjoyed using technology to play number and literacy games, access songs and develop programming skills with the Beebot.  We’ve had great fun!

Digital Week in the Stars

*Successful Learners

We had a good week using many types of digital technology. We used the I Pad to take directed photographs in the garden and played many games and activities on the Promethean Board. We talked about many changes in technology, made tasty smoothies using a switch and watched a story using a QR code. We had fun using beebots with Miss Smith and making a telephone from paper cups and string (it really worked!) and compared it with today’s handsets and mobiles. Gaming safety was discussed and not to share information. We used technology to cross the road on our outing when we used the pelican crossing.

Digital Learning Week

We have enjoyed exploring and experimenting with different technologies this week.

We were very responsible when finding out ways to be safe when using the internet on technologies. We listened to a story about Buddy the Dog and how he helped his friend, Ben, make good choices when using the Internet. We made our own poster on how to be safe using the internet.

We explored using QR codes too. It was fun scanning the code and waiting to see what would happen. The codes took us to songs and stories, which we enjoyed.

During our topic time, we tried some Pirate coding. We used coding to find different items on a treasure map.

We also made our own mobile phone and chose apps to add. Some of us wrote text messages to people at home.

It was fun exploring different types of technology and the boys were brave trying out new things.

Well done, Asteroids!
