IDL Evidence – Venn and Carroll Diagrams

Pirates come in all different shapes and sizes, with many different looks.

The Asteroids were exploring sorting items into different categories using venn and carroll diagrams. When completing our special pirate themed venn diagram, we had to look carefully at different pirates and sort them into whether they had an eye patch or a peg leg or both. Completing our carroll diagram, we had to look and see whether the pirates were male or female and whether they wore an eye patch or not.

It could be quite tricky at times but we all managed with confidence to complete our sorting activities.

Great job!

Like paleontologists we dug in the sand to find dinosaurs which we dusted down with brushes. We counted what we’d collected and matched with the written number.

50 Things – Bird Watching

The Asteroids enjoyed a trip to the garden on Tuesday. It was a lovely day to enjoy bird watching.

We had a list of birds to look for and we talked about whether the birds were big or small and what colours their feathers were. We used binoculars to help us spot birds that were far away.

We weren’t able to spot all the birds on our list but we did see a Blue tit, Magpie and a Sparrow.

Good spotting, Asteroids!

Responsible citizens at cooking and class cafe!

French toast was on the menu this week at cooking. We worked hard to follow the recipe and to stay safe in the kitchen. We were all successful learners and enjoyed eating it afterwards.

Hard at work for the Oak Class!

In preparation for our outdoor cafe with our friends from the Beech class we all chose which role we would have at the cafe. The roles to choose from were front of house, waiter/waitress, chef, dishwasher and housekeeping. Everyone worked well together as an effective contributor.

Earth Day with the Asteroids

We were successful learners finding out more about Earth Day this morning.  We paid attention to the board when we watched our information film and then some of us could answer questions about Earth Day.

As our way to help the earth, we planted sunflowers and seedlings to transfer to the school garden next week. We all enjoyed the feeling of the soil running through our fingers and looking at the plants’ roots.

Later, we were responsible citizens and took our recyclable items from the classroom and sorted them at the school recycling container.

We all enjoyed listening and joining in with some Earth Day songs too.

Stars Easter Activities

*Successful Learners                *Responsible Citizens                                        *Confident Individuals              *Effective Contributors

We did some lovely Easter themed activities this week. We created an Easter card, had a shapes treasure hunt and handled lots of different animals at the ‘Petting Zoo’. We had good fun following clues to find the Easter bunny and were rewarded by a chocolate egg from him. At science we did a ‘Humpty Dumpty’ experiment where we explored different ways to save an egg from breaking when dropped from a height. This was good fun. We joined other classes from the upper primary for an outdoor disco where we played games as well as danced. A good week has been had by all.

One of our Easter activities was decorated eggs. We made Mars Bar tray bake which we cut in to egg shapes. We then iced our egg and decorated it with sweets and sprinkles. We think they look great and will taste even better.
