IDL – Sciences – Stem Challenge – How Strong is Spaghetti?

*Effective Contributors    *Successful Learners

We quickly learnt that a single strand of spaghetti is very weak and breaks easily. However, if you place them closely packed together they form a strong bond. They are stronger bundled together horizontally rather than vertically.

Successful Learners – Numeracy

The Transition class had some more sweets to sort into groups this week. They were Successful Learners when they made rows of sweets to compare numbers. We discovered that the split of sweets in a Heroes packet is fairly even. As usual, the sweets that no-one likes were present in the highest number (toffee eclairs – yuck!), and there was one solitary Twirl.

SAFE SUNGAZERS – ROAD SAFETY & FIREWORK SAFETY

*Successful Learners* *Responsible Citizens*

We’ve had a busy week in the Sungazers class! We learned about Road Safety and even learned a rap to remind us how to stay safe when crossing the road. We had some good poses:

We also learned about how to keep ourselves safe on Bonfire Night. To celebrate the 5th November, we made some healthy (and some not so healthy) edible sparklers!

Have a lovely Bonfire Night & weekend everyone!

Fireworks

This week we learned about the history of fireworks and Guy Fawkes during assembly and then enjoyed being successful learners working on our fine motor skills to create some firework artwork.

We were effective contributors when we participated in our music lesson.  We were working on our rhythm and playing all together in time to the music.

IDL Evidence – Expressive Arts

Confident Individuals/Successful Learners

This afternoon, the Asteroids paid lots of attention to paintings by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. His portraits of people are painted using different fruit and vegetables. They enjoyed finding and naming the different foods used in his paintings. We tried our own fruit and veg portraits on the Promethean board and then we used pictures of ourselves and chose which food we wanted to use for our own facial features.

Don’t they look great?

Confident Individuals/Responsible Citizens/Successful Learners

The Asteroids have been learning about road safety with the help of Super Cat. We had great fun listening to the story, joining in with words and actions of the safety rap, road safety games, sorting out safe and unsafe situations and making our own Stop, Look, Listen and Think signs.

Well done, Asteroids!

Hallowe’en with the Asteroids

The Asteroids were all looking fabulous wearing their costumes this Hallowe’en. We had an astronaut, Beetlejuice, an angel and Cruella and her 3 Dalmatians!!

We have enjoyed some spooky activities.  We voted on which eco pumpkin  to make and got to work creating that and we made our potions using a red cabbage. Today, we started the day with some skeleton dancing, Hallowe’en corners, swat the spider, we dooked for apples and we made a scary biscuit monster this afternoon to have with our snack.

Happy Hallowe’en everyone!
