Willowbank School, KilmarnockThe Snowdrops have begun exploring and learning about our new theme, Italy. Pupils have been introduced to new Makaton signs which relate to places and foods from Italy. Everyone has made effective contributions to art work which shows the colours of the Italian flag and the shape of the country.

At last the weather has been dry and not slippy today and we were able to get our rain gauges out in different locations in the school grounds . We were very responsible when putting them in the sensory garden that we didn’t damage any of the plants that were there . We will keep you posted on how much rain fall we have over the next few weeks .
The snowdrops were effective contributors today when we joined in activities to support Comic Relief. Everyone was wearing red or something to support the event. We played red nose corners with each corner having a picture of the Disney T-shirts . We were so good at this that both Ryan and Kayla came joint first .. well done . Then we had a spoon and nose race against the daisies and it was too close to call ! We then had some time to dance to our favourite songs before returning to class . Lots of fun was had by all .
Today was Red Nose Day. Some of the boys came in wearing red. We watched the YouTube video “put a nose on it” by Singing Hands. We went to the atrium with all the other infant classes and had a dance. We played Red Nose Day corners with the different Disney characters on the t-shirts and also had an nose and spoon race. The boys also tried on Red Nose Day glasses and a nose.
This has been science week in school and the Snowdrops have enjoyed exploring many different activities. They have been successful learners – observing different reactions during experiments with colours and eruptions, also creating fun, unusual sounds using sound beams. Enjoy looking at our photos!
The Snowdrops made very effective contributions to many activities relating to World Book Day. In class, we made lots of personal choices, making bookmarks, painting and sharing our favourite stories from home. Everyone was confident individuals joining in with a school parade on Thursday morning.
We had a special visitor come into school today. Greta Yorke and her friend Moira came to Willowbank today to read Greta’s book “The Tartan Witch”. The whole school got to listen to Greta and Moira tell the story about the tartan witch. Greta had also organised some lovely activities related to the book for the children to do after listening to the story. The activities were : exploration of the characters from the book, creating our own tartan using special wooden blocks with different lines on them, a matching game and a potion station. Everyone really enjoyed listening to the story and were effective contributors when engaging with the activities.
The Snowdrops were very responsible citizens, contributing to many different class and school activities about LGBT. We have been successfully learning about how all families are different and particularly enjoyed a story called No Matter What.
We have been learning about Fairtrade this week. We had a Fairtrade assembly by the Snowdrops. We were confident individuals in making our own special Fairtrade delight for the Fairtrade Bake Off yesterday. We made cake pops with ‘rice krispies’ and made them look like sunflowers. The boys were fabulous at this. They waited their turn and listened to instructions. We even made extra so the we all could take one home.

Today was our whole school Fairtrade day. We went to the hall and played fairtrade corners and pass the banana. We were also very lucky and had a fairtrade hunt. We had a huge surprise at the end when we met a monkey in our school sensory room. He danced with us. We had great fun.
The Snowdrops have been very responsible citizens exploring Fairtrade activities. We have all made effective contributions to fun drama activities, pretending to be farmers and buying bananas. At assembly this week, the Snowdrops shared all their successful learning with their friends in the primary department. Well done Snowdrops!
