The boys were Responsible Citizens whilst upcycling the greenhouse using plastic from the RAF. They all contributed by unfolding the plastic laying it across the top of the greenhouse and helping cut to size to fit before it was stapled down.

The Stars class were successful learners this week when doing our Eco work. We learnt about some boys and girls living abroad who had to go to work so were not able to go to school. We are very thankful we are able to go to school living in Scotland. We were responsible citizens when voting for Pupil Council posts. Good luck to all the candidates. We formed initial letters of our names using twigs from the garden and at theme art did leaf printing and created a raccoon and porcupine for our ‘Over the Hedge’ wall display. At science we made a fizzy volcano.
We have been learning all about Global goals 8 this term. We have been exploring the different jobs people can do and have been enjoying role playing as different people in the conservatory.
We also learned lots about Global goal 12- responsible consumption and production. We have been very responsible citizens and learned all about different kinds of pollution and how this affects the environment, humans and animals. We watch some videos about global warming before sharing our feeling with out peers, and made eco promises to walk on outings more regularly, recycle paper and plastic each day, and to litter pick to keep our school and local park clean and tidy.
At Willowbank we get a wide variety of learning experiences and a quality education. We looked at out timetable symbols to choose some of our favourite activities. We also practised our pencil control colouring in the school badge with green and then adding the tree.
We have been learning about different global goals. We watched clips on YouTube about global goals 8 and 9.We are improving resource efficiency by only using a maximum of 2 paper towels. We have also been talking about small businesses around our local area and looking at the shop fronts and signage.
* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS *
The Bluebells class learned about where strawberries come from. We looked at where they grow on the map and how they start from a strawberry plant and turn into a juicy red strawberry.
* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *
The Bluebells class brainstormed ideas for 3 eco pledges which we are going to take forward this year.
We used google and the SMARTboard to help us make our choices.
We pledge to….
* Use our canvas bag instead of plastic carrier bags
* Switch the lights off in rooms when they are not in use
* Turn taps off when they are not needed
* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *
The Bluebells class enjoyed designing their very own canvas bag. This is to use when we are on outings or on visits to the supermarket so that we do not need to use plastic bags.
We designed the bag using our handprints.
The SQA ECO group have their first donation of old mascara wands, thanks to Mrs Boyle! We are needing lots more so everyone and anyone please donate to the SQA ECO group rather than putting in the bin! The ECO group will wash them and send them all away to ‘Wands for Wildlife’ once we have a decent collection. Recycle your old items and help look after our animals so we all can be effective contributors.
The poster below was created by Ethan Scoular.
This week was our sensory eco assembly.
We played games made of recycled materials. The boys all loved playing them. We decorated our own class canvas bag. We are going to use this for our weekly outings. We made recycled art work. We used lots of pencil sharpenings to decorate our butterfly pictures. We also had to feel different materials and decide which bin we would put the item in.
