Eco Pledge Promises!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

The Bluebells class brainstormed ideas for 3 eco pledges which we are going to take forward this year.

We used google and the SMARTboard to help us make our choices.

We pledge to….

* Use our canvas bag instead of plastic carrier bags

* Switch the lights off in rooms when they are not in use

* Turn taps off when they are not needed

Bluebells Bag!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Bluebells class enjoyed designing their very own canvas bag. This is to use when we are on outings or on visits to the supermarket so that we do not need to use plastic bags.

We designed the bag using our handprints.

IDL – Numeracy

This week we have been successful learners and working hard on developing our  numeracy skills.

We used the fitness balls to help understanding of directional movement, forward and backwards.  We also all sat in a circle with the balls and used the drumsticks.  We were counting and listening to directional movement, working on right and left.

We were taking part in coin work, before we went on our first class outing into town.

FAOL – Eco/Sustainable Development (Quality Education)

We have been exploring different classroom settings from around the world.  It was interesting to find out that not all children learn from within a classroom in a school building.  Some are taught from inside tents, some outdoors and some from underneath trees which are used for shade.  We had good fun completing activities in different learning environments this week.

Literacy Skills

In some countries children don’t have pencils and paper to write with. Instead they use chalk and write on their desks or on the ground.

FAOL Science

We have been learning about butterflies in the Sunflowers class. Today we watched a video about what happens. The egg hatches into a caterpillar and eats lots of food before building a cocoon and then turned into a butterfly. We then stuck images from “The Hungry Caterpillar” book in order from the egg to the butterfly.

We will get caterpillars in the new year and watch then grow and then finally turn into butterflies and let them free in the playground.

The children enjoyed learning about the importance of recycling today.  We explored food and drink wrappers, investigated what happens to them at the Recycling Plants and then sorted them into the correct bins. The children worked hard on Recycling awareness posters.
