Please click on each link to show the impact of singing nursery rhymes both within the ECC and home environment. The tracker shows a positive impact for each session. Rhymes are important in raising phonological awareness which leads to your child being equipped with key skills for P1.

Our nursery rhyme of the week is Baa, Baa Black Sheep. Please focus on this rhyme within the home environment and listen to your child saying the rhyme as some of the children may be saying “bla” instead of “baa” and “day” instead of “Dame” I will share another chart in the next few weeks.

ECC Nursery Rhyme Data…

We have been focusing on developing the children’s awareness of Nursery Rhymes by focusing on one rhyme each week within the ECC and sharing this on the blog and communication board for you to do at home with your child. Nursery Rhymes aid your child’s phonological awareness and assists with reading and spelling at a later stage. Please have a look below at the statistics gathered from before we focused on the rhyme in partnership with yourselves at home and after regularly singing the rhyme in the ECC and at home. The data shows a 23% increase in the amount of children who were able to recite Hickory, Dickory Dock in the morning session and a 13% increase in the PM session. Please continue to focus on our rhyme of the week at home as this has a positive impact on your child’s development. Our Rhyme of the week is Twinkle, Twinkle little star.

Miss Clark needs your help….

Miss Clark is hoping to make up story bags and is looking for donations of…..

-Small bears looking for around 10.

-Hungry Caterpillar soft toy and story book.

– Mouse, Owl, Snake and Fox soft toy

-For the 3 bears story I’m looking for 3 bears in big, medium and small size. (No bigger than an A4 piece of paper for the large bear.

I would like to thank everyone for the donations received so far this is very much appreciated. I continue to thank you for your support as these story bags will be used as a home link project to support communication and language development.

Importance of Rhyming….

Please have a look at our communication board as it has some information on rhyming such as top tips pictured above and our Nursery rhyme of the week which is Hickory, Dickory Dock. Please encourage your child to use their imagination to make up rhyming words as this aids your child’s prediction skills. Awareness of Rhyming assists your child’s knowledge of words, syllables, sounds and aids their ability to read and spell at a later stage. Please point out rhyming words within books and songs as this is of great benefit to your child.
