Reverse Advent Calendar

Primary 7 are organising a reverse advent calendar for the food bank.   We would love the ECC and School to take part.

During the month of December, we are asking your child to bring in one non-perishable food item to give to Ayrshire East Food Bank. Every child will receive a number and this will correspond with a date up to the 18th of December. Therefore, if they are number one they will bring their item on the 1st of December and so on. If their number falls on a Saturday they will bring it on a Friday and on a Sunday they will bring it on a Monday. Your child will receive their number as soon as possible.

We would really appreciate your help with this as we know some families will be struggling over Christmas time.

Thank you for your help.

 Yours sincerely,

Kyle Chambers and Jamie Hodkinson

(On behalf of Primary 7).

Thank you from the GFG

The GFG would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who gave donations of food or pyjamas for Hillhouse this week. Your generosity has been incredible and will all help make someone’s life a little easier at this difficult time.

Thank you!

Gargieston Food Bank & Toy Station – w/c 9th November 2020

2020 has been a tough one for us all and with Christmas just round the corner we want to show our support to people in our local community who find themselves in need this festive period.  This year we will again be supporting our local food bank with donations and also Hillhouse charity who support children and families across Ayrshire.

Next week volunteers from the GFG will be set up in the school car park every day between 8.45am-9am and 2.45pm-3.15pm to accept any kind donations you may want to give in the form of non-perishable food items, children’s pyjamas or toys (these must be new items that can be used as gifts for kids, not pre-loved items please).

To allow you to safely donate we will be observing all COVID guidelines and social distancing measures and will have two car boots open within the designated area of the car park each day at the above times to allow you to safely drop your donation with no contact necessary.

Thank you all once again for your continued support and kindness.

Poppy Scotland

As a school, an important part of our calendar is Remembrance Day and the sale of poppies for Poppy Scotland. Unfortunately, as is the way with so many things this year, we will be unable to show our support in the usual way. However, should you still wish to donate to this cause, we would like to direct you to the Poppy Scotland website where there is a wide variety of items you can purchase instead:

Many thanks

A thoughtful message….

In any ‘normal’ year, part of our final week would be walking to St Andrew’s & St Marnock’s church for our end of term service. Rev McNaughtan has recorded us a really lovely message which we hope you will enjoy too, with something very special at the end for the Primary 7s. Thank you so much to him for doing this – it is hugely appreciated!

All our messages…

Just to say a massive thank you to all of you who tied messages of support on the school gates.

They have given the whole Gargieston community a real sense of togetherness and brought a smile to many faces when it has been most needed.

I think it is perhaps time now for me to take them down as many are torn and water-stained with all the wind and rain; some have even blown out their poly pockets.

Thanks again for this fantastic display and enjoy your long weekend.

Mrs Lawson

Well wishers

Pictures to brighten your morning! Thanks, everyone!

VE Day

What a pity so many of the VE Day celebrations had to be cancelled or altered due to our current circumstances. However, thousands across the country came together at 11 am this morning as a mark of respect.

Ten years ago Gargieston pupils were responsible for securing a memorial bench in Culzean Crescent where 4 civilians died in May 1941 during the only night Kilmarnock was ever bombed in WWII.

The children traced relatives of those killed and held an emotional unveiling ceremony attended by these families, the children’s parents, residents of the street and many more.

Some of you may like to take a walk up to Culzean Crescent during your daily exercise to see the bench and the street.

Good morning!

Another lot of fabulous messages for everyone to read. Keep them coming and we will do our best to put them all on the blog!

So kind…..

Our posters have now started to appear on the Woodside Avenue railings and a special thank you to PC Dawson for his fabulous message to the children he met in Developing The Young Workforce week. These messages are appreciated by staff, parents and pupils alike. Stay safe, everyone!
