Please click on each link to show the impact of singing nursery rhymes both within the ECC and home environment. The tracker shows a positive impact for each session. Rhymes are important in raising phonological awareness which leads to your child being equipped with key skills for P1.

Our nursery rhyme of the week is Baa, Baa Black Sheep. Please focus on this rhyme within the home environment and listen to your child saying the rhyme as some of the children may be saying “bla” instead of “baa” and “day” instead of “Dame” I will share another chart in the next few weeks.

Our Nursery Rhyme of the week is…..

One, two, three, four, five Makaton

Please try this rhyme out at home with your child pointing out the rhyming words this is very important in raising your child’s phonological awareness. Miss Clark is collecting data on the children’s knowledge and awareness of each rhyme before it becomes our focus and again after. I will share these results in pie chart form in the next few weeks. I recently attached our first pie chart on Hickory, Dickory Dock which showed an increase of knowledge and awareness when the rhyme was focused on at home and within the ECC in a partnership. Please try and incorporate this into your every day routine Nursery Rhymes are portable: Here are some examples of when they could be sang…..

*While in the car on the way to the ECC each day

*When out walking in the outdoor environment

*When your child is having a bath or shower

*Before or after story time  at home.

*While making the dinner or tidying up.

*While visiting some relatives.

Our new top tip …..

This months focus is about being face to face with your child so they can look directly at you while joining in with their play. Play with the same resources as your child and allow your child to direct the play this involves copying and responding to their actions even if this involves acting like a big kid this will really encourage your child’s active participation and encourage them to seek further interactions.

This provides your child with a positive outlook on how they see the world around them. When a child is actively listened to they feel a sense of value this also builds their confidence, self esteem and  social skills when forming positive relationships for life long learning.

We have been focusing on developing the children’s awareness of Nursery Rhymes by focusing on one rhyme each week within the ECC and sharing this on the blog and communication board for you to do at home with your child. Nursery Rhymes aid your child’s phonological awareness and assists with reading and spelling at a later stage. Please have a look below at the statistics gathered from before we focused on the rhyme in partnership with yourselves at home and after regularly singing the rhyme in the ECC and at home. The data shows a 23% increase in the amount of children who were able to recite Hickory, Dickory Dock in the morning session and a 13% increase in the PM session. Please continue to focus on our rhyme of the week at home as this has a positive impact on your child’s development. Our Rhyme of the week is Twinkle, Twinkle little star.

A big thank you from Mrs Cotton…

Mrs Cotton would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated supermarket items. The role play area is now up and running and the children are very eager to explore various roles. We don’t need anymore supermarket items as we have our supermarket fully stocked up with goodies and plenty of items left to replenish as we go. We would still however welcome donations of trollies or baskets only. Thank you very much for all your help and support, it is greatly appreciated.

Importance of Rhyming….

Please have a look at our communication board as it has some information on rhyming such as top tips pictured above and our Nursery rhyme of the week which is Hickory, Dickory Dock. Please encourage your child to use their imagination to make up rhyming words as this aids your child’s prediction skills. Awareness of Rhyming assists your child’s knowledge of words, syllables, sounds and aids their ability to read and spell at a later stage. Please point out rhyming words within books and songs as this is of great benefit to your child.
