Digital Schools Award Scotland

Last week Mr McDowell, Mr Stewart, Olivia Neilson and Ben Wallace were invited along to the Digital Schools Award ceremony in Clydebank. They were amongst 22 other schools who have also achieved this fantastic accomplishment making us one of only 43 schools within Scotland who can be proud to display this award.

The awards were presented by Elizabeth Morrison, Strategic Director of Education Scotland, David Hogg, Head of Education for Hewlett Packard Europe, Middle East and Africa and Steven Grier, Scotland Country Manager for Microsoft.

We are extremely proud of our achievement! A huge well done to our pupils, staff and parents for all their hard word and continued efforts towards making our school a digital learning environment.

A Warm Welcome To All Our New Pupils!

With the teachers all prepared and ready to go, we are looking forward to welcoming lots of new pupils to Gargieston tomorrow morning. Not only do we have all our Primary 1s, we also have 10 new pupils to various classes further up the school! We hope you are all excited and looking forward to making lots of new friends.

As all current pupils and parents know, our main reading materials are from the online resource Bug Club. It is a relatively new scheme and one which is showing great results in our children’s learning.

With this in mind, we would like to invite the 10 new families, along with families who started at Gargieston mid-way through session 16-17, to an informal workshop on how Bug Club works and how to get the best out of the books.

Tuesday 22nd August at 3.20pm in the ICT suite

N.B. LATER IN TERM 1 THERE WILL BE A SEPARATE WORKSHOP FOR ALL NEW P1 PARENTS – this will coincide with P1 children receiving their first reading books.

Dyslexia Friendly Schools

Mrs Campbell and I were extremely proud on Thursday, taking Jasmine, Melissa and Tori to Dumfries House to receive the DfS Gold Award from Provost Jim Todd.

Gargieston is one of only 4 primary schools in the authority to successfully achieve this award – all thanks to terrific team work from staff, pupils and parents.

A wonderful way to end the year!
