Mary’s Meals Backpack Appeal

As you will have seen in the previous post, Gargieston Pr. is taking part in the Mary’s Meals Backpack Appeal. This project was launched at assembly last Monday by Sheila Smith who is a volunteer for the Mary’s Meals charity. It is being led by our P7 pupils, Keira, Morgan, Zara and Orla. We would be so grateful if families would donate a  backpack filled with the items listed in the previous post. Other than the toiletries all items can be recycled from home. All the backpacks you donate will be sent to school children in Malawi which will help to ensure, like us, those children can enjoy their Right to an Education. (UNCRC Article 28)

Poppy sales

Primary 7 children will be going round classes starting on Thursday 1st November selling poppies. A minimum donation of 20p would be greatly appreciated for the charity.

Many thanks

Church Service

It was lovely to see so many friends and family joining us today in church for our closing service. I’m sure everyone there enjoyed listening to the choir and recorders.

A huge thank you to the GFG for the secondary school ties for our Primary 7 children. It has become a wonderful tradition and one which their parents greatly appreciate too.

As you know, Beautiful Inside and Out (SCIO) was the nominated charity for the offering and we are delighted to be handing over a cheque for £320 to help fund their counselling sessions for young people. Thank you for your generosity today.

Children in Need Update

The Mini Council have been working hard deciding how to raise money for the charity Children in Need.

As a group we have decided to collect old, round pound coins as part of ‘Pudsey’s Round Pound Countdown’, if you have a round pound coin at home we would be grateful if you could donate it to our collection by giving it to Miss Caldow.

On the week beginning 13th November the Mini Council will be selling Pudsey merchandise.  Based on our survey we have decided to go with Ears for £2.50. These will be sold at lunchtimes in the gym hall.  In previous years these have sold quickly so be quick to avoid disappointment.

On  Friday 17th November children are invited to dress up in spotty/Pudsey clothes at the cost of £1 which should be given in cash to their teacher on the day.

We are looking forward to seeing how much we can raise and if we can beat last year’s total of £623.90!

Thank you for you help and support!

Glow in the Dark Blush Ears (£2.50) – 37 pupils

Glow in the Dark Wristbands (£1) – 94 pupils

Glow in the Dark Keyrings (£1) – 69 pupils

Glitter Badges (£1) – 66 pupils

Miss Caldow will order products based on these results.  We will update you on any further activities we have planned.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

Last Friday P7 held a MacMillan coffee morning. We sold: cakes, home baking and tea and coffee. We would like to thank everyone who attended the coffee morning. It was much appreciated. We made a cracking amount of £368.65. So once again thank you to every one who came along.  Whilst the coffee morning was taking place, some of the adults popped into the book fair.  After the coffee morning had ended some of the pupils could get the chance to buy some of the left over home baking for only 20p. They were delicious.

Rights Respecting Schools Group Thank you

Mrs. McLaughland, Miss Meechan and all the members of last session’s Rights Respecting Schools group would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone in the school and ECC who donated shoes to our collection for the Sal’s shoes charity on the last day of term in June. Once the shoes were boxed up, they were transported for a reduced fee by a courier to the Sal’s Shoes depot in England before being shipped, we believe, to Nigeria. It is a lovely thought that Nigerian school children who have very little, will now be going to school wearing shoes donated by Gargieston pupils. A massive thank you to Mrs. Lee (Freya and Pippa’s mum) for  coordinating the collection and transport and her band of helpers, including Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Gear, Mrs King and others. We should all be very proud of ourselves.
