Ocean has been developing her gross motor skills through climbing and using a ball.

The pre-school children have been reading the Yeti’s roar by Carol Arnott. The story focuses on developing a growth mindset continuing to try when you are learning to do something new and not giving up.

To mark the end of their time at nursery, the pre-school children had a campfire with popcorn.

  

Small groups of children have been developing their skills in riding a bike through daily practise.

A few children have been exploring and sequencing numbers.

Deryn made up a fantastic story during his nursery narrative group.

A few children selected a story and read it together.

Ali wanted to make some ice. He froze some of the dinosaurs. Others joined in trying to free the dinosaurs from the ice.

A group of children used the logs to create their own campfire re-enacting their previous experience.

Oscar and Henry have been looking at the book Look and say what you see in the town. They have been finding images hidden in a bigger picture and naming some of the things they see.

A couple of children came up with the idea of creating their own hot tub when they noticed the pot was full of water.

A group of children used natural loose parts to create models with play dough.

  

A number of children designed and created their own Scotland flags to celebrate the start of the Euros last week. The flags were hung around the garden.

A number of children have explored different textures within sensory play using their feet.

Together, the children read the story of the 3 little pigs. They revisited the story re-enacting parts of this within their play.

Jessica used loose parts to create her own aeroplane using this within role-play with others. Owen came up with the idea of adding wheels to the plan using tyres.

Others have been finding different ways to move across apparatus.

Ivie has shown interest in writing numbers.

Oliver and Skyler have been creating models using different construction materials.

A few children have been identifying how they are feeling and showing this by putting their photograph next to a feeling picture.

A few children continue to show an interest in shape sticking magnets together and drawing around them to re-create the shapes.

Others have been investigating the mud kitchen using loose parts and water for cooking role-play.

A few children have been finding and investigating beetles and snails.

This week some of the children have had visits to the 3-5s garden to support them with their upcoming transition.

A group of children have been using shapes in different ways to create models and pictures. Within this, some of them have been exploring patterns and symmetry.

In the garden, a few children worked together collecting and transporting earth. They used this to fill up holes in the garden where they have previously been digging.

Ali and Henry have been investigating puddles in the garden during the heavy rainfall.

A few children have been developing their number recognition and counting skills through playing games.

Darla-Jane and Ayva have been developing their mark making through drawing pictures.

In Bubble A, they have been engaging in lots of sensory play in the garden.

A few children have shown interest in dinosaurs using the figures within role-play.

Others have been challenging themselves creating a range of models   using wooden blocks. Hollie has shown a particular interest in castles.

Bubble A

In Word Aware, the children were learning about the word long. Some children have been comparing heights with others and measuring different items around the garden.

In Abc and beyond, they were learning about the word joined meaning to come together. In the story the sheep joined one another.

A number of children have been exploring sensory play in different ways.

  

A few children have been using their imagination creating different objects using Lego bricks.

Alba and Jessica have been practising identifying numbers and counting out quantities of objects.

A couple of children used construction materials to create their own bike ramp.

 

Bubble B

In Word Aware they have been learning about the word habitat. They matched animals to their habitat.

In ABC and beyond they have been learning about the word pair meaning two of the same thing.

A few children have been putting together pairs of socks as they were all mixed up.

Children took turns to use the saw to cut up piping for the garden.

They worked together to create a piping wall which objects can travel through.

Both indoors and out, children have been investigating shapes. They have been learning the names of unfamiliar shapes, using shapes to build and create pictures. Others have been weaving ribbon through shapes.

A few children have shown interest in writing numbers.

Kane, Aniyah and Kash worked together with the dice creating their own game.

A few children have shown interest in learning how to use scales.

Due to some children’s interest in space, in group time they have started to focus on the cow who fell to Earth as their new ABC and beyond story. This week they were learning about the word problem.

In Word Aware, the children have been learning about the word quick this week. They did different actions quick whilst other children guessed which action they were doing.

Both indoors and out, a number of children have been investigating water in different ways.

       

Fatimah, Eden and Hollie have been cooking and serving food in the mud kitchen.

Rebecca, Riley and Alba have been mark making using chalk.

Fatimah continues to show interest in making things. She used different materials to create a rocket.

Bubble B

This week in group time, the children started to focus on their new ABC and beyond story. This week they learned about the word high as the frog jumped high.

In the water tray, a few children have been engaging in role-play using some of the characters to retell the story.

Other children used the story to draw pictures of tadpoles.

  

In Word Aware, some children have been learning about the word thick. They sorted different items into thick and not thick.

Kayden and Lyall used recycled objects to create their own rocket.

Other resources were provided for children to investigate different ways of creating robots.

In the garden, a group of children have been practising number recognition and counting by shooting water towards number targets.

Others have been counting out quantities of shells and counting skittles whilst playing bowling.

A few children have been sequencing numbers and trying to identify each number participating in jumping games.

Whilst roleplaying on the boat Rory noticed the boat was missing a flag. He gathered materials and worked with others to create a flag.

Jessica and Taylor looked at their learning journals together  looking at the photos and recalling some of the things they have been doing in nursery.

The children have been planting flowers. They have been learning how to look after plants watering the plants in the garden.

A few children used flowers to create pieces of art.

The children continue to explore mark making in a range of ways.

Kiera has been manipulating play dough in different ways breaking this into smaller parts using scissors. She has also used the play dough to build.

In bubble A, they have started their new Abc and beyond story the crocodile who didn’t like water. So far they have been learning about the words strange and decision.

A few children have shown interest in dinosaurs through small world play.

Others have been developing their gross motor skills through climbing and exploring large loose parts.

   

Some children have been developing their skills in riding a pedal bike.

A few children have been developing their fine motor skills and cutting skills using scissors and manipulating clay and wood.

Freddy came up with the idea of creating an island. He worked with Josie gathering play dough and lots of loose parts from around the garden to create an island then used it within role-play.

A few children have shown interest in role-play using people figures. One child used recycled materials to create their own house.

In bubble B, they are reading Supertato as their Abc and beyond story. They have been learning about the words round and broccoli.

Some of the children have been developing their fine motor skills using tweezers to catch the evil pea in the story.

In the home corner, children were developing their independence skills cutting up vegetables. Harley used the vegetables to make broccoli soup.

Others have been using vegetable characters to retell the story and create new stories of their own through role-play.

In Word Aware some of the children have been learning about the word long. A couple of children used the string to create a long line of reels.

In group time, one thing we are developing is social skills. We have been playing different games together and learning to take turns.

In the garden, some children have been developing their gross motor skills through participating in assault courses.

A group of girls initiated a ball game. They organised the game themselves and took turns rolling the ball to one another inviting others to join in too.

Ariana, revisited the story Zog. She looked at the pictures in the book and recalled some of the events retelling the story.

A number of children continue to express an interest in mini beasts searching for these in the garden discussing and investigating these with others.

A couple of the children found stones in the garden. They brought them inside and decided they would like to decorate them. Other children thought this was a good idea and joined in too.

A few children have been exploring different forms of construction problem solving to make their towers and models balance.

Georgie sorted the blocks into colour groups pointing to and identifying each colour.

Kiera is beginning to make patterns with the blocks following and copying pictorial instructions.

A couple of children have been investigating different media which can be used to make marks.

3-5s

In Bubble B, the children have been continuing to explore the Bear Hunt story. This week they went on a bear hunt in the garden retelling the story in their groups.

  

They learned about the word under this week. In the garden they travelled under different pieces of apparatus.

  

This week, some of the children have shown interest in learning more about what dinosaurs eat. They have been learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and have been sorting dinosaurs into these groups.

Oscar has been setting up the house with the furniture making a plan of where everything should go and engaging in role-play using the people figures.

Ayva used different parts of a flower to create a piece of transient art.

A group of children used Duplo to create towers and measure these against the dinosaurs comparing sizes and developing their counting skills by counting how many blocks high the dinosaurs were. Others used the blocks to create their own models.

In Bubble A, they are continuing to read the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Due to this, they have been learning more about planting in the garden. They have taken on greater responsibility for looking after the plants and their garden.

 

A group of children have also shown interest in learning more about bugs finding these in the garden and learning more about them by exploring books.

A group of children continue to show interest in learning more about space. This week they have been exploring this in different ways including learning about the solar system doing puzzles and learning how to use a telescope.

Freddie and Jaye worked together to create a model using the magnetic shapes.

Sophie has shown great concentration and control when using scissors this week.

Fatimah has been working with others to make playdough following pictorial instructions.  She moulded the playdough to make different models.

A few children have been using the computer to learn more about shapes and develop their counting and number recognition skills through games.

This week, the children in Bubble A started their new ABC and beyond story Jack and the Beanstalk. This week they were learning about the word sell meaning something you give in exchange for money.

In Bubble B, they continued to read We’re going on a bear hunt. This week they learned about the word over meaning on top. In the garden the children were going over different pieces of equipment and using the word over in their play.

This week we had a delivery of tyres to the nursery. A few children in bubble B have been using these in different ways. Some have piled them up and climbed on top of them whilst others have created tunnels or rolled them around the garden.

Lyall was comparing the heights of different towers of tyres and counting how many tyres were piled on top of the other.

In Bubble B, they have also started to do some planting this week. They talked about what plants need to grow and learned how to plant flowers and some vegetables. They are taking on responsibility for watering the plants.

     

A few children have shown interest in mark making and sharing books with one another.

This week the children received a letter telling them SHANARRI octopus would be joining our nursery looking out for all the kind things we do. Harley and Jude noticed an octopus picture had appeared on the wall one morning. They looked at the picture and talked about it together.

In Bubble A, they have been checking on their plants making sure they water them and observing and discussing any changes they have noticed.

Some of the children have been developing their skills in counting and recognising numbers by playing games on the computer and using calculators.

A group of children continue to show an interest in space. They have been exploring books and puzzles and learning about different aspects of space. They have taken this into the creative area  making models to represent planets and rockets. Through this they have learned new vocabulary about space.

In the garden, a few children have been exploring construction in different ways . They have built up towers and used blocks as apparatus to jump off.

They have also been investigating and mixing different materials observing and discussing what happens.

Freddie has shown a great interest in building castles. He has revisited this daily building the castle in different ways adding additional features and details.

A few children have shown interest in cooking pasta in the home corner.

To develop this further, the children learned how to create their own sauce and added this to some cooked pasta. They watched as it was cooked in the microwave then they had the opportunity to taste it.

A few of the children have shown interest in gardening.

This week they have planted seeds which they will look after and watch them grow.

They have also been developing their physical skills by riding on the new balance bikes and ball skills.

A few children have been exploring loose parts using their imagination and building with blocks.

Both indoors and out, a few children have been mark making with paint on different surfaces.

A couple of children have also been exploring different materials using their senses.

The children are developing their independence skills when tidying up by matching objects to pictures.

This week, the children in Bubble B started their new ABC and beyond story- We’re going on a bear hunt by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.

This week the children were learning about the word wavy. In the story the family had to go through the long wavy grass on their bear hunt. A few children have been using the wavy scissors to cut paper whilst others have followed wavy lines using straight scissors.

In the garden, some children have been following wavy lines by travelling over them in different ways. Others have used chalk to create their own wavy lines.

A few children continue to show interest in exploring magazines and catalogues. Together with others, they discuss their likes and dislikes.

In the home corner, children have been developing their independence skills by cutting up potatoes and vegetables.

Here are some of the children putting their skills into practice as they have lunch together.

A few children have been developing their finger and hand muscles by using pumps for painting. They mixed together different colours predicting and investigating what colour it would make.

There has been a continued interest in digging this week. A few children said they were digging tunnels to their house. They created their own maps showing how they would get to their house from nursery.

We had a delivery of bark to the nursery this week which we are going to use to enhance the nursery garden. A number of children showed great interest in watching the bark being delivered and were keen to learn how the machinery was operated.

A group of children took on responsibility for developing the music area in the garden. They shared their ideas together and found and created different objects which make sounds. They problem solved to get these to attach to the fence using string and cable ties.

A number of children have shown interest in using tools. This week children have been using the hammer and screwdriver working with wood. We talked about the importance of safety and how to hold tools to make them easier to use.

As some children have shown an interest in learning how things work, we also investigated padlocks and keys. Children engaged in problem solving as they tried keys in different locks and worked out how to unlock and release the padlocks from the wire rack.

A few children have been using different types of blocks, balancing them on top of one another to create different models.

They have opportunities to mark make in lots of different ways.

A few children have been engaging in farm role-play.

Others have been engaged in small world play in the dolls house.

Some children have been developing their fine motor skills using tools and engaging in construction role-play.

A couple of children have shown interest in developing their ball skills in the garden.

In Bubble A, Freddie used the magnets this week to create a rocket.

Whilst looking at a book, a few children noticed all of the planets. They worked together to create their own planets which were hung from the ceiling.

Freddie then decided to create another rocket using recycled materials. Josie thought this was a great idea and decided to create one too.

Josie and Aarron then used cartons to represent the planets for their gingerbread men. They created stars and fireballs using foil. Then they used all of these props to role-play. Eden and Dannika then joined in too.

In the garden, a few children have started to do some planting in Bubble A. This week they planted sweet peas, sunflowers and marigolds.

A few children have been exploring different ways to build using magnets and blocks.

In Bubble B, Kane, Riley and Max were checking the garden was safe for everyone to play in by doing the garden  risk assessment checklist.

In Bubble B, there has been a continued interest in dinosaurs. A few children were digging in the mud and found what they thought was dinosaur fossils.

Some of the children then used clay and salt dough to create their own fossils.

Owen made dinosaur footprints prints in his clay.

A number of children watched a programme to learn more about dinosaurs and how they were discovered.

In the garden, a few children have also been engaging in role-play using the boat. They have used loose parts to rescue one another from the water and repair the boat.

Ayva, Ariana and Henry worked together using the blocks to create a walk way through the middle of the nursery.

A few children explored different types of books in the story corner.

After seeing the robot Kayden had made whilst he was learning at home, Kane decided he wanted to make a robot using recycled materials too. Hudson and Max helped Kane to sellotape his robot together.

Kane, Harley and Taylor worked together to make play dough. They followed the picture instructions taking turns to do each step.

Some of the children have been developing their physical skills by throwing different equipment towards targets.
