A group of children have shown an interest in police role-play and building a police station. This week we watched a video to find out more about what the police do and how they help people.

In the garden, a group of children used loose parts to create their own pirate ship. They created a flag and treasure maps.

In the garden, a group of children have been developing their gross motor skills through participating in obstacle courses and climbing.

Some children have been adding water to the sand observing how it changes consistency. They have used the trucks and diggers to collect and transport the sand.

Hudson has been developing his fine motor skills doing jigsaws.

A couple of children have been mark making using chalk.

Hallie has been helping her friends this week by taking off their coats.

A couple of children have been exploring the tools roleplaying builders.

A few of the boys got together to create some music.

A few children have been investigating different electrical equipment at the workbench taking it apart using the tools. Others have been using the wood to hammer nails into.

After learning about the word stitch in their story last week, a few children tried stitching themselves.

In the garden, a group of children have shown interest in controlling traffic learning about different signs that can be used.

Ali has been practising writing numbers using chalk.

A few children wanted to use the bridges but they would not stand up on their own. Harley looked for something to hold up the bridge and problem solved until she had the right number of pieces to hold up the bridges.

In the other garden, a group of children worked together using a pulley to pick up and transport items.

Joshua noticed the fan which blew onto the garden. He collected leaves and brought them to the fan letting go of them and observing how the fan made the leaves to travel. Oliver observed what Joshua was doing and joined in.

Others were jumping in the leaves and burying one another.

Inside, a few children have been using shapes to create their own pictures and towers.

In the water tray, a few children have been investigating different containers filling them up and pouring them out observing the water travel in different ways and transporting it from one container to another.

 

George has continued to explore fire fighter role-play in different ways.

  

In the garden, a couple of children used the blocks to create their own fire engine. They used hula hoops to represent steering wheels.

Some children have been developing their cutting skills using scissors to cut different materials.

A couple of children have been developing their fine motor skills through threading activities. 

A group of children played a listening game where they had to listen to the instruction and select the right picture putting it in the right place.

This week in ABC and beyond one group started to focus on a new story- The Elves and the Shoemaker. This week they were learning about the word stitch.

The other group have started to read a book about coronavirus. This week they were learning about the word virus.

A group of children have shown a real interest in floating and sinking selecting different objects both indoors and outdoors and investigating whether they float or sink.

In the garden, this group investigated the size of splash different objects made trying to find the object which made the biggest splash.

The interest in shapes has continued this week. Joshua used his checklist to identify shapes in the other garden. He noticed the puddle was a circle so he ticked this on his shape checklist.

Other children used the shape cards matching these to different items in the garden.

Other children have used shapes to create pictures and build towers.

A number of children have been exploring different materials for building creating different models.

Freddy built a jungle for the wildlife animals.

A group of children used loose parts to create their own picnic.

A group of children have shown a real interest in using clay and play dough to create a range of models. They have worked together to make the play dough and used a range of loose parts and herbs.

In the garden, a group of children went on a scavenger hunt to find some animal figures. The children extended this themselves finding other items within the garden and counting how many objects they had collected.

In the home corner, a few children have been engaged in cafe role play taking turns to serve food and be a customer.

This group of children worked together to transport water from one place to another.

A few of the children continue to show a real interest in firefighter roleplay.

They used paint to print and create imaginary fires.

Some children collected leaves from the garden and also used pumpkin seeds to create their own works of art. 

Logan has shown interest in roleplay in the home corner.

Some of the children used loose parts to create an obstacle course for them to move around the room.

3-5s

Some of the children have shown a real interest in numbers. They have been trying to identify numbers and put them in order. They have also been hiding them around the garden for others to find.

Joshua noticed some of the shapes on the signs inside and outside of the nursery. Other children began to show interest so they have been drawing shapes and going on shape hunts around the garden using their checklists.

They have continued this interest inside playing shape and pattern games on the interactive board.

 

A few children have set up their own cafe in the home corner taking orders and serving food.

Harley has been comparing the weight of different household items.

A group of children were exploring chalk outside using brushes to spread the chalk to create their own fireworks.

In Word Aware group the children have been learning about the word empty. Lyall showed us an empty basket he found in the nursery.

In Numeracy group time, children have been playing games which help them to practise counting and recognise numbers and shapes.

A few children have shown an interest in building their own tracks for the trains to travel on. They have been problem solving to make sure the train can move all the way around the track.

In the garden, a number of children have been investigating the sand adding water to it to change the consistency of the sand. Some of them have been building sandcastles.

A few children have been exploring the clay developing their fine motor skills as they mould it in to different creations.

 

In the water area, some children have began to show an interest in floating and sinking observing and discussing what happens when they put different objects into the water.

Danny and Aarron were using the measuring stick to measure how tall they were. They then transported it around the garden to measure different items. They looked at the numbers recognising those they know.
