RPS Shakespeare 2 May 2016Celebrating Shakespeare at Rothesay Primary Pupils at Rothesay Primary recently had a special assembly because Morven Gregor, the Education Officer at Mount Stuart had some very exciting news to tell us – an original set of 3 volumes of Shakespeare had been found on Bute! Morven told us that a curator had come from Oxford University to make sure the books were genuine – and they were!

Kilmartin Primary School’s Amazing Artists

Kilmartin amazing artists 1Creativity is always a top priority at Kilmartin P.S. and this term, the children are very proud of the outcome of their portrait work, showing how rapidly their skills are developing. As part of their lessons, they have studied works by Picasso and have been learning to sketch with charcoal and how to use tone effectively. I’m sure the children would love to have your comments on their work.

ROCKET SEEDS FROM OUTER SPACE AT ACHAHOISH P.S.

Achahoish Seed Science 1This term we have planted some very special seeds as part of our science space topic. We received two packs of rocket seeds from the Royal Horticultural Society, one of which has been taken up to space to the ISS by the British astronaut, Tim Peake. We have planted both packs of seeds and we want to find out what effect being in space has had on the seeds. As we don’t know which of our packs went to space we will have to record their growth pattern and send off the information to RHS.

Tayvallich P4-7 – Action in an Emergency

Tayvallich First aid training 1Pupils at Tayvallich PS have been learning how to save a life. On Tuesday 19 April Mr. Andy Craven talked to the P4-7 children about the correct methods of dealing with cardiac arrest. He discussed protocols and the children were made aware of the physical signs of a person who was unwell and suffering cardiac arrest.

DGS Autism Awareness

DGSAutismAwarenessApril 1st 2016 was Autism Awareness Day in Dunoon Grammar School. The Learning Centre pupils prepared a Power Point presentation to show at house time and made a whole army of gingerbread cookies to sell on the day. The whole school was invited to design jigsaw pieces which were joined together for display in the Forum, showing that DGS supports Autism awareness. The event was a great success so well done to everyone involved. A total of £120 was raised for our local autism support organisation: Autism Argyll.

Creative Days at Kilcreggan Primary School

Creative day at Kilcreggan 3The children, staff and parents of Kilcreggan Primary School had a great end to the Spring term trying out new skills. Using our skills as Confident individuals, we took creative risks! We were organised, managed our emotions and challenged ourselves to ‘Go for it, Finish it!’ Activities that were on offer included crochet, origami, cake decorating, K’nex challenge, yoga, fimo modelling, using ipads to create games, creative music and decoupage. The children worked in vertical groupings working and supporting each other.

Busy Time at Southend Primary School!

Southend Busy Time 1251 2Pupils at Southend Primary School have been very busy learning about the processes involved from farm and sea to fork.
We have been looking at different food groups, ‘The Eatwell Plate’ and the importance of a balanced diet. Members of the local community have visited to enrich our learning in this area. Jen Campbell discussed fishing; how the fish is caught, different species of fish found in our local area and some information about the work carried out by her husband and son, who are fishermen. We saw live crabs which they had caught and tasted crab pate.

Strath of Appin – Magnificent Masks!

Strath of Appin MasksPre school and primary pupils at Strath of Appin Primary show-off their crafty masks. As part of their whole school homework challenge the pupils had to design and make an Easter or spring-themed mask. A wonderful assortment of masks were made and brought in to school where the pupils enjoyed wearing them to their Easter Service at Appin Church.

Sport Relief’ Fundraising at Dalintober PS and ELCC

Dalintober Sport Relief TyresPupils of Dalintober PS and ELCC held a number of fundraising events for ‘Sport Relief’, including bootcamps, a zumbathon and fitness challenges. The pupils raised a fantastic £1619.18 for the charity and would like to thank members of the school community for their kind and generous donations and sponsors.

Glassary Beetle Drive

Glassary Beetle Drive 1Glassary Primary 1-4 class organised a fantastic Beetle Drive today as a final event for their Enterprise topic. The children designed and created all elements of the event and could invite one special guest each.

They did a brilliant job of explaining the rules to their visitors and a great time was had by all. The children enjoyed it so much they are planning to invite the older class to a Beetle Drive next week.
