Monday 30th of March – Pink Class

It’s Monday! Wakey, wakey! Let’s start with a good morning song.

Calendar –

Let’s play a favourite learning game – ‘Wall Touch’

Write days of the week on pieces of paper. Place the pieces of paper around the room or blu-tac to the walls. Everyone stands in the middle of the room. Someone shouts out a day of the week and everyone races to find it and touches it. Repeat for other days of the week. Mix the cards up and try again. Have fun!

Movement –

Check out the movement section for some ideas. How are you all getting on with Joe Wicks?

Life Skills –

Help out with doing the dishes today. This is one of our classroom jobs.

Maths –

Let’s continue with money.

Make a money caterpillar. Can you add up the coins? How much is each caterpillar worth?

P.E.-

Check out our P.E. section. Gerry and Pedro have put some great active ideas on here. I’m going to have a go myself.

Or try our ‘Spell your name’ workout.

Story –

Vicky from Silver Class found this little story about social distancing. Watch it and discuss with family.

Sign of the Day –

What signs will we learn from Lorna today?

Art –

Can you make your own colour wheel using items from your house?

Here is the colour wheel:

Here are some attempts:

Have a good search around your house. Have a family competition. Who can make the best colour wheel?

Outdoor Learning –

Here’s a little challenge for a walk today. As you wander around your estate or garden collect items to record your journey. What can you find that nature has provided? Tie them to a stick to help tell your journey story. Was it fun? Were you happy? What did you find? Did you find any feathers? What animal did they come from?

HWB –

How are you all getting on with brushing your teeth? Are you remembering to reach the tricky bits? Set a timer for 2 minutes each time.

Challenge of the Day –

Find 8 things in your house that begin with the letter ‘b’

Have fun!

30th March

Hello Yellow Class!

Hope you are all well and have had a good weekend!

As promised, here is a guide to Monday! If you want, feel free to comment and share your activities photos with us. 🙂

Circle Time – We start our circle time singing “hello – super simple songs” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVlcKp3bWH8

This is also the time we started to learn some Spanish. Leave you here some Spanish translations.

Good morning – “Buenos Dias”

Hello – “Hola”

How are you? – “como estas?”

We then talk about how we are feeling today (happy, sad, tired, and excited). We find how does the weather look like and what day it is – You can do your calendar book.

And we finish our circle time sharing the last day news. Again you can always share with us if you want. J

MovementHere some ideas for movement. You can use this ones or any other of your preference.

Art- Donut Shop -Setup a Donut Shop Role Play Area in your house to pretend you are selling donuts today!

Paint the donuts cut from recycled cardboard. Use glitter, piece of card, cut magazines, seeds, stickers… Use your imagination to make different “flavours” and “topics”. Make them nice and yammy! “Sell” them to your family in the house.

Remember to take part at tidying up time, you know the song.

Outdoor learning – Pam thought it would be a good idea to start a “Going on a bear hunt” walk.  Check Gina’s post about the bear hunt.  How many bears will you see when you go for a walk today?  Do you know … I saw a bear at my window, have a look .

HWB – You know how important it is to wash your hands. Let’s find out, how germs spread, and why it is important to wash hands with soap?

For this activity, you will need the following:

  • Glitter
  • Access to a sink
  • Soap and water
  • Optional: lotion
  • Optional: sheet of white paper

Ask your child to use water or lotion to get their hands damp. Note that the hands should be damp but not soaking wet.

Then sprinkle a healthy amount of glitter onto your child’s palms and have your child rub their palms together. Explain that the glitter represents germs, and your child’s hands are now covered in germs.

Ask your son to give a handshake to a person next to him/her.

(If you don’t have a second person to pass the “germs” on to you, your child can also just place their palms onto a white sheet of paper and observe how many “germs” are left behind when they remove their hands.)

Now look at the other person hands and see how they are now covered in “germs” as well.

Then ask your kid to go into the bathroom and wash their hands with water only (no soap).

Despite rinsing well, your kid still have some “germs” on his hands. He/she will learn that washing with water alone doesn’t get hands very clean.

Then ask to wash their hands again, but this time to use soap.

Can you see how easily germs can spread from person to person, and why washing our hands with soap is so important? Washing with water alone just doesn’t do the job! Only by washing with soap was it easy to get all the “germs” off their hands.

Out. Learning – We’re going on a Bear Hunt!

Good afternoon everyone.

Are you ready for our Outdoor learning today?

You can choose one of these activities below to have fun.

Activity 1

Today we’re going on a Bear Hunt.

Pam thought it would be a good idea to start a “Going on a bear hunt” walk.  Have a look at this Facebook page We’re going on a Bear Hunt West Lothian to find more information about where you can spot the bear. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2661544074061343/

Let’s get outside and find out how many teddy bears and rainbows can we see in our walking.

Find below this sheet to help you in your activity.

Activity 2

Build a teddy bear cave

Build a teddy den

If you choose to build an indoor cave, you can use blankets, chairs and pegs (to stop the blankets coming off the chairs).

Take your teddy with you and have fun!

I would like to see your photos about your adventure today.

Language (Secondary) – Today’s activity

Hello everyone,

Following on from my earlier blog post, I have attached today’s language activity – Lockdown

I said that I would post a folder with different activities but unfortunately I am unable to do this (content is too large), so I will now post them individually each day.

Have fun and enjoy your learning!

Laura Leathem (Language and Communication Teacher)

Language (Secondary)

Good morning everyone,

And what a lovely morning it is! Hope you have all had a good weekend.

As promised, I have attached a Language folder highlighting the key skills that we encourage in Language and Communication. The activities are aimed at Early, First and Second Levels. You can make yourself familiar with them today, and I will make reference to these activities throughout this week.

There is also a folder called ‘Additional activities’ and I have created a writing activity (differentiated) that you all might like to try today.

I have also included all Secondary classes (even those that I don’t teach) just in case you want to dip in and out of these.

Hope you all enjoy your day and have fun!

Laura (Language and Communication Teacher, Secondary Department)

P.S. Technical hitch – I am having difficulty uploading the files and will get some help with this – these should be available shortly.
