P2/1 Ready, Read, Repeat!

P2/1 have had a fab day today during our Ready, Read, Repeat day. We loved being dressed up as our favourite book characters and the teachers loved taking part too. We spent the day sharing our favourite books, looking at one of my favourite books Stick Man and doing activities related to it. We made our own Stick Men, wrote a Stick Man adventure then made a label to go in our chosen library book. Then we got a chance to have a look at some of the furniture we are going to order for our updated reading corner and choose a book that we would like to donate to it. It has been a great day and we can’t wait for all the new things to arrive.

P2/1 3rd November 2017

We have had another busy week in P2/1 this week and have started our new topic ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark’. We have made owls using paper plates and mounted them on a night time background. We have also been looking at dark being and exciting time with firework displays happening. We have talked about how to stay safe around fireworks and made some lovely firework pictures-look out for some of these being displayed on the windows of the P2/1 classroom!

In Maths this week we have all been looking at addition. The P2s have been adding groups that are screened or hidden and the P1s have been combining sets of objects.

In Phonics the P1s have been consolidating sounds that they have learned so far and focusing on blending the sounds to make CVC and CCVC words- we are doing really well with this! The P2s sound this week was -ue and the children have been enjoying thinking of new words to add to our lists and also finding -ue words in their reading books and around the classroom.

Next week we will begin rehearsals for our Nativity performances so be prepared for the children to come home singing some catchy songs!

Thank you for your continued support

P2/1 13th September 2017

This week we have been continuing our work on phonics in Literacy. The P2s have been revising some of the sounds that we already know like ‘th;, ‘sh’, ‘ch’ and ‘wh’. The P1s have already learned ‘a’, ‘t’, ‘s’ and ‘i’. See if you can test your child at home to see if they can tell you anything with these sounds in it from around the house.

This week is Inspirational Maths week throughout West Lothian. The P2/1 class have had great fun completing some problem solving activities and we are hoping that if the weather is kind tomorrow we will manage some outdoor problem solving in the playground.

Last week we went on a walk around the school building and took some pictures of different areas of the school. In Writing we wrote some lovely stories about Mrs Steel and the things we like to learn about in school.

Reminders-
Monday- new common words (P1 and P2) and sound cards (P1 only) come out. Gym kit for indoor gym.
Tuesday- New Reading book. Maths (usually every other week)
Can you please remember to send your child’s homework pack back every day as they love getting their medals to show how good a day they have had.
Thank you for your support

Primary Five 26th February

This week we have been learning about Robert the Bruce and the Battle of Bannockburn.  We have watched a short film about his life and made notes while we watched.  We used these to write a report about Robert the Bruce.  Next week we will be finishing off the Topic and recapping what we have learned.

In Maths one group have started work on data handling.  They have made bar graphs and this work will be continuing next week.  The other group have been working on area and are now moving on to time.

Next Thursday (3rd March) Primary 3 are organising World World Day.  Children can come dressed up as a character from their favourite book.  We look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

Please remember indoor gym kit on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Thank you

Primary Five 19th February 2016

This week more than half the stage are away at Benmore so the rest of the boys and girls have been taking part in some work based around our Topic.  We have been working on a challenge to make a life sized 13th Century Knight complete with armour and weapons.  This has been great fun and we will be displaying these around the classroom for the other boys and girls to see when they return.

Natasha Kadi Faith Natalia Aleigha Ellie Sarah Leoni Robyn

We have also been using some of the skills we have learned in ICT to create a leaflet.  We are using Publisher to make an information leaflet about weapons that the Knights would have used in their battles.  We look forward to sharing these with the Benmore boys and girls too.

We are all excited to hear about the boys and girls adventures next week and hopefully see some pictures of what they have been up to.

Thank you

Mrs Steel
