Primary 2 update – reading day

Don’t forget about our Reading Day tomorrow.  Children can come dressed as a character from a book and bring in their favourite book to read in class.  We’ll be doing lots of other exciting activities including designing our new reading corner.

It’s a busy week, with our Christmas Fair on Friday from 6pm – 8pm.  Please come along and support it if you can.

Thank you,

Mrs Muir

Primary 2 update 15.11.17

Our Nativity rehearsals are well under way now.  If your child has taken home lines to learn please could you help them to learn them.  Words should be brought into school every day.  The songs have been posted on the P3 blog so please check there to practise the Nativity songs.

PE is still on a Monday (outdoor) and Tuesday (indoor).  Please could you ensure your child has PE kit for those days.  Please could you also make sure that they have gym shoes for wearing indoors every day.

Homework:

Time your climb:  The children should write out their spelling words using ‘Look Cover Write and Check’.  The words contain the sounds we have been learning about in class. Please can you time your child reading all their spelling words at 3 different times in the week and write down how long it takes them each time.

Thanks for all your support.

Mrs Muir

Primary 2 update 8.11.17

This week we started our new topic – Emergency services.  During the topic we will be learning about the police, the fire service, the ambulance service and mountain rescue.  We are hoping to have some visitors from the Emergency services to help us with our learning.

We have started learning our songs for the Nativity and have put them on the blog for you to practise at home.  You will find the songs on the P3 blog.

Our PE days continue to be Monday (outside) and Tuesday (inside) so please could you send in PE kit for those days.

Thank you

Mrs Muir

P2 update

Thank you for your help with completing the grandparent homework. We’ve been having great fun learning all about what life would have been like in the 1950s and 1960s. We hope you’ll like seeing the photos of us trying out some of the dance moves. We also turned our classroom into a 1950s classroom – it was tricky having to work in complete silence!  This afternoon to help us with our learning, we enjoyed a visit from the library services as we were able to see and hold lots of things from the 1950s and 1960s.

Here are some of our photos.

Primary 2 update

What a fantastic week of inspirational maths we have had in primary 2.  The children have been working in pairs or groups to solve mathematical challenges including making shapes with ropes, sorting items and seeing how many different towers we can make with 3 or 4 coloured cubes. Here are some of our photos.  We all had great fun discovering and learning!

I hope you have a lovely long weekend and will look forward to seeing everyone back in class on Wednesday.

Mrs Muir.

P2

We’ve had a great start to the new year and all the children are settling in very well.  We will start homework this week and today your children will have reading and maths to complete.  They will also be given some common words every week.  Please could you help your child to recognise and read these words.

This week we will be starting our topic – In Granny’s Day – where we will be looking at what life was like in the 1950s and 60s.

PE will take place on a Monday (outdoors) and a Tuesday (indoors). PE kits can be left in school and taken home after Tuesday.

If you have any questions or need to see me, please just let me know.

Thanks,

Mrs Muir

Primary 2

The children are all looking forward to their holidays but we still have a lot of exciting things to do in the last two weeks.

Tomorrow we are supporting UNICEF’s Day for Change by having an ‘opposite’ day.  Children can come in wearing their clothes back to front, their pyjamas, dressed as an adult, or any other ‘opposite’ idea they can think of.  The children have already been sharing their ideas and are very excited about it!

On Tuesday we will have our P1-3 beach trip.  You should have received a letter about it.  If you haven’t already, please can you return the EE2 form as soon as possible as we will need it before the trip.

We haven’t had a class trip this year and have organised a visit to the Botanic gardens in Edinburgh where we will learn about plants and how they grow.  This will support the learning we have had in the classroom during our garden centre topic. You will have received a letter about this.

There will be no homework for the last two weeks of term.

If you have any questions about anything that is happening over the next couple of weeks, please let us know.

Thank you,

Mrs Muir and Ms Matheson.

Primary 2 update 27 April 2017

We had an exciting start to this term in P2 with a visit from Cool Creatures.  We met a lizard, an armadillo, a skunk, a snake and an arctic fox.  The snake was so big it took a lot of us to hold it! We learned a lot about how these animals survive in cold or hot countries.

We’ve been continuing to learn more about hot and cold countries and will be learning about the desert next when our friend Barney Bear travels there.

In writing we have written some very exciting stories about getting lost in the jungle.  We talked about the animals we met there.

Don’t forget it is a holiday on Monday and an in-service day on Thursday.

We hope you enjoy your holiday weekend.

Ms Matheson and Mrs Muir.

Primary 2 23.3.17

We have had another busy week this week.  We have started another block with the art specialist, Ms Fox, and will be having art every Wednesday.  Our indoor PE day will be Thursday and we have outdoor PE on a Tuesday.  Please make sure your child has PE kit on these days.

For Red Nose Day on Friday we are having a dress down day.  Children can dress in red, white or black or as one of the red nose characters and pay a donation of 50p to dress down.

Today we will be switching off our lights at 2.15 for Earth Hour and will be thinking about all the things we like about our earth and environment.

Next week we have an Easter Egg hunt in the school playground on Thursday.  Please can you return the form for this if you have not done so already?

Thanks for all your support,

Ms Matheson and Mrs Muir

Primary 2 17.2.17

We hope you all had a great long weekend.  It’s been a short week in school but we’ve still managed to fit lots of learning in!

We’ve started our new topic – Hot and Cold Countries.  We’ve been learning all about animals in cold countries, how they keep warm and how they use camouflage to help them.

We really enjoyed our last topic on the Emergency Services and the highlight was probably our visit from the fire brigade (see photos below).

On Monday P2Mu have our assembly.  We’re really looking forward to seeing you then.

Yesterday we visited the library and everyone has chosen a book to take home.  The books should be return on Monday 27 February.

Please remember PE kit for Wednesday (indoor) and Thursday (outdoor).  Also, please could you make sure your child has indoor gym shoes for class and takes a bottle of water in every day.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Muir and Ms Matheson.

Primary 2 update 14.12.16

We hope you enjoyed the P2/3 show last week.  We certainly did and we are very proud of the children- they put such a lot of effort into preparing for the show which was fantastic.  Thank you for all your support with helping with lines and finding costumes.

Christmas Party – Friday 16th.

This Friday we have the P2 Christmas party at 10am.  Children should come dressed in their party clothes if they would like to wear them.

On the last day of term (Wednesday 21st) we will be going to the Church for our Christmas service.  There will be a collection so if you would like to contribute to the collection, please send some money in with your child.

Lastly, all homework has stopped now until after the holidays.

Thank you for your continuing support,

Mrs Muir and Ms Matheson.

Primary 2 28.11.16

Last week we continued our Nativity practices and we’re sure it’s going to be a great show!  The dress rehearsal takes place on Wednesday.  If your child has lines to learn please could you continue to support them to learn them.

Thursday will be the school Christmas lunch.  If you have not ordered a Christmas lunch please make sure your child brings a packed lunch to school.

Lastly, the Christmas fair takes place from 6pm – 8pm on Friday.  We hope to see you there.

Ms Matheson and Mrs Muir.

Primary 2 Update 21 November 2016

Last week was a very busy but exciting week as we welcomed our visitors from Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Italy and France.  We learned lots of new words in different languages, were taught a song by the Slovakian teacher and a Bulgarian dance.

100_3132 100_3135

On Friday we started our new topic ‘The Emergency Services’ and we were very excited to have a visit from a local policeman.  Everyone had lots of questions to ask him and some of us even got to try on his uniform.  We were very relieved that the handcuffs were too big for us so we were able to slip out of them very easily!

This week we will be continuing our practices for our Nativity show.  It is really starting to come together now.   Please could you continue to help your child learn their lines if they have any.  If your child needs to provide a costume they will have received a letter.  If you have any problems with getting a costume please let us know.

Thanks for your continued support,

Ms Matheson and Mrs Muir.

Primary 2 14.11.16

We have finished our Granny’s Day topic which the children have really enjoyed.  Thanks for all your help with their homework.

We will be starting our new topic, The Emergency Services, this week when we will be getting a visit from a local policeman.

Tomorrow our visitors will be arriving in school.  We can’t wait and we’ve thought of lots of interesting questions to ask them.  As part of our assembly on Tuesday we will be singing ‘You cannae shove your Grandad aff his bike’, which you may have heard being sung at home over the past few weeks!

Our Nativity practices are continuing.  If your child has come home with words please help them learn them.

Have a great week!

Ms Matheson and Mrs Muir

Primary 2 update 4.11.16

We’ve had another exciting week in Primary 2 learning more about what life was like in the past.  We’ve even turned our classrooms into 1950s classrooms!

We’ve now started rehearsing for our P2/3 Nativity show which is called ‘Lights, Camel, Action’.  Our singing is sounding fabulous already!  The Nativity takes place on the 7th December – further details to follow.

During the week of 14th November we will have a visit from teachers from our partner Erasmus+ schools.  They come from Slovakia, France, Italy, Bulgaria and Poland.  We are very excited about their visit and will be learning a bit about the different countries next week.

We hope you have a great weekend,

Ms Matheson and Mrs Muir

Primary 2

We have had a really busy start to the year and everyone has settled in well.  A few weeks ago, Granny Peggy joined our class to help us learn about when she was a little girl.  We have learned about the games she played and what her house was like.  We have been surprised at how different things are now and can’t believe that she wouldn’t have known about Pokemon!

This week we will be learning about transport in the 1950s and continuing to make our own teacups in art.  They will be wonderful!

At the moment indoor gym is on Tuesday and outdoor gym (weather permitting) is on Thursday. Please bring appropriate kit on these days.

Mrs Muir and Ms Matheson

I hope everyone has a restful weekend after a very active week!

Dalguise update

Last night’s wacky races were great fun.  In one of the races we had to take off our shoes, mix them up and the first one to find their shoes was the winner.  The chicken race was where we had to lay an egg and carry it to the end of the race.

Today the activities we took part in were the giant swing, zipline, trapeze, Jacob’s ladder, vertical challenge and team games.   The giant swing was really funny because we went so high it felt we were really flying.  We had to pull the string to release the swing and it made the swing go so fast it took us by surprise!

At the Jacob’s ladder and vertical challenge activities we were timed to see how far we could climb.  It was so hard to climb up because Jacob’s ladder had huge spaces between the steps and on the vertical challenge the cups and tyres kept spinning when we were standing on them.   They were really hard but about half of each group managed to get to the top and we all tried our best.

We have to go now because we are getting ready for the disco tonight.

Bye for now from Luisa, Cameron and Stuart on behalf of all of P6 at Dalguise.

Hello from Dalguise!

We are still having a great time here at Dalguise.  We played Ambush last night and it was AMAZING.  It is like a big game of hide and seek but much cooler.  We were in the dark and one team had to hide and then shout ‘AMBUSH’ when the other team passed them.  If the other team saw them first they would shout ‘AMBUSH’.

Today our groups did lots of different activities like trapeze, fencing, tree climbing and quad biking.  We also did lots of problem solving activities that needed a lot of teamwork and communication.   We loved the trapeze.  It is when you climb a 25 foot wooden pillar and jump off to try to hit a ball that is in the air.  We thought it was amazing and a lot of us conquered our fears.  We also went quad biking which was really fun.  We got to drive around a race track and drive through cones.

We have to go now as we’re off to play wacky races.   We will tell you what we get up to tomorrow.

Chanel, Niamh L. and Kieran on behalf of all of P6 at Dalguise.
