PE Kit reminder

Just a wee reminder of what pupils need to bring on PE days.

Indoor – navy shorts, white t-shirt and indoor shoes/trainers

Outdoor – joggers, t-shirt, sweatshirt/hoody and outdoor trainers

Each class will have PE twice each week. Check out their class blog for up to date information on when PE Kit is needed.

A big shout out to P7 who are setting a great example already with the whole class remembering to bring PE kit each week.  Well done!

Thanks for your help in supporting this.

Lunchtime handball training for P6 & P7

Anyone in P6 and P7  who enjoy playing handball and would like the chance to be in the school handball team should come to the big gym hall on Thursday lunchtime ( 6th September)

Please bring gym kit and a water bottle.

The school handball team was very successful last year coming 2nd in the West Lothian and going on to represent West Lothian at the Scottish Finals. We are hoping for similar success this year!

Scottish Gymnastics Primary School Champions

What an amazing day our gymnasts had at Bells Sports Centre, Perth on Saturday.

The gymnasts were amazing on floor and vault

.

Our team of Cara Flood, Anna Glasgow, Louise Barrie and Zak Swift won LEVEL  2 TEAM GOLD!

And if that wasn’t enough  Cara Flood also won LEVEL 2 INDIVIDUAL GOLD.

What an achievement!

Congratulations also to our other Level 2 team of Amber Lawson, Megan Paterson and Carla Jansen who performed so well on the day competing against the best primary school gymnasts in the country.

P2 enjoyed Cricket sessions today

P2 welcomed Fraser and Hannah from Livingston Cricket Club to their PE lessons today and they had great fun trying out cricket skills. Hopefully they brought a leaflet home and told you all about the AllStars sessions for 5 to 8yr olds that Livingston Cricket Club have starting on 6th May.  There is a great equipment pack (hat, t-shirt, bag, water bottle, ball, cricket bat) given out to all participants of these sessions.

If you click on this link it will take you to the Allstars cricket  website for more information or to book.

Commonwealth Games 2018

The Commonwealth Games have started today in the Gold Coast in Australia.  BBC are showing lots of the sporting events so you can tune in to see Scotland win some medals ( fingers crossed!) From day 1 Scotland has teams playing Hockey and Netball and individuals competing at swimming and track cycling.  I wonder how many medals we can get on the first day? Did you know that West Lothian has 7 athletes over in the Gold Coast representing Scotland?

Click on the link below to see the Day by Day guide to all the sporting action. Who will be your sporting hero?

PE snow day ideas

I wonder if any of you fancy being the next Lizzie Yarnold?  Have a look at the video clip of Lizzie winning her second gold medal at the recent Winter Olympics and then get out sledging today! Remember to be safe though!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We4rtSaRgSs

If you don’t have a sledge you can just get out in the snow and try all different activities in it.  I think you’ll find it’s much harder walking, running and jumping in the snow.  How many different activities can you do in the snow and  how does your body feel when you try them?

And if you cant get outside here are some indoor activities you can try.

Gymnastics

I am delighted with the effort our chosen gymnasts have been putting in to get ready for the gymnastics showcase next week. Just a reminder that there will be a practice for all on Thursday lunchtime in the big hall so please make sure you have your PE kit with you and you are ready with your routine. If you have any questions then please come and see me when I am back in school on Wednesday. We have such talented gymnasts that I’ll bet they are finding it hard to select their favourite 6 or 8 skills. Could the Rhythmic and partner sequence gymnasts also come at playtime on Wednesday.

Many thanks

Mrs Ferguson

Gymnastics afterschool club

A wee reminder for those attending the gymnastics afterschool club tomorrow (Thursday) that you need to bring your PE kit or leotard and the completed skills sequence sheet. There is only 3 weeks until the schools competition so it is important that we can practice and perfect your sequence.

Many thanks

Lunchtime Running Club

Pupils in Primary 6 and Primary 7 have been coming along to a Wednesday lunchtime running club in their droves and I have been really impressed with the standard of running and commitment to the club.   It is an opportunity for pupils to improve their stamina and develop the ability to pace a distance race properly  for the forthcoming Cross Country event and sportshall athletics event in the New Year.  We have 1 more week of running club so please remember outdoor PE kit for this on Wednesday.

Mrs Ferguson

P6 PE – training going well for Cross Country event

P6 have been training hard in PE for the forthcoming Cross Country event. They have been learning how to pace a distance race and build up stamina to run the whole 1.1 km.  Their effort and determination has been outstanding. If possible it would good if they can practise at home – maybe even encourage parents/guardians and siblings to go out for a run with them!  Remember to bring outdoor and indoor PE kit on a Wednesday until October because we will be outside as often as possible (weather permitting).

Keep up the great work P6

Mrs Ferguson

PE kit

Can the following classes please remember indoor PE kit this term for PE with Mrs Ferguson. This should be a white t-shirt , navy or black shorts and suitable clean indoor shoes.

Wednesdays – both P7 classes, both P6 classes and P3C

Thursdays –  both P2 classes and all P1 classes.

Many thanks

Mrs Ferguson

Primary 6 Handball Team

Congratulations to the Primary 6 Handball team on their success in Round 3 of the West Lothian Handball League.  They won all their games on Monday at Craigswood Sports Centre and this places them joint top of the league with Livingston Village Primary and will make the final round of games on March 23rd  very interesting indeed. They have been training really hard at the handball after school club and I’m sure they will continue to do so as we get closer to the next competition. Well Done!
