All children have these rights, no matter who they are, where they live, what their parents do, what language they speak, what their religion is, whether they are a boy or girl, what their culture is, whether they have a disability, whether they are rich or poor. No child should be treated unfairly on any basis.

Have a think about how you are respecting everyone’s rights over the next two weeks!

Are you listening to others?

Are you being kind?

The reason we learn to respect every one’s rights because its helps us to become responsible citizens!

Snow much fun in P1b!

What an exciting week we have had in P1b.  It all started on Monday when we arrived in school to find glittery footprints and a letter which was left by a friendly dragon.  He was asking if we could rebuild Fairyland in our classroom as it is disappearing and as lots of people are not reading Fairytales anymore no-one is believing in Fairyland.  We were so shocked that a dragon had been in our class but are excited to read lots of fairytales and rebuild Fairyland to help him.

In maths this week we practised our number stories of 4 and learned about measuring.  We spoke about all the different things that you can measure and had a go at measuring using cubes.  We learned that you have to use all the same size of cubes when measuring and have to make sure that the cubes are touching with no gaps.  We worked with a partner to draw around each others feet and measured the length of these using cubes.

We worked together in groups during reading routes and looked at different types of text.  We learned about bold and italic text and are looking out for these in our books.

In structured play we enjoyed dressing up in the fairyland castle, used construction materials to build beanstalks, practised spelling words and our names using the letters and made some stars to practise our ‘ar’ sound.

Finally, we got a lovely surprise when Badger the Mystical Mutt visited us on Thursday afternoon and delivered replies to the letters we wrote to him before Christmas.  We were very excited to see him and some of us enjoyed having pizza and listening to some of his stories after school with our grown-ups!

Playing in the snow

The nursery children had lots of fun playing in the snow. They enjoyed playing on the sledge down the small hill and even managed to make a small snowman. Some even went in to the Primary 1 playground to go through the Willow Tunnel.

A busy start to the year in P1a

Happy New Year!

P1a have settled back in to school well after the holidays and have worked hard this week.

We have enjoyed starting using the reading books this week and are looking forward to developing our skills this term.

In maths we have been looking at the stories of 2 and 3 and really impressed Mrs Thomson with how well we worked on these.

We also created days of the week boards that we will bring home next week.

The highlight of the week was getting to use the Beebots and watch them follow our direction instructions!  We look forward to using them again soon!

Can ‘t wait to see what adventures we will have next week!!

Happy New Year from P1b

P1b have settled back into things really well and have had a very busy week.  In maths we have been learning all about the number stories of 2 and 3 and have enjoyed using concrete materials to try to find all the number stories.  We have also been learning about the months of the year and have been busy sequencing the days of the week.

In literacy, we have enjoyed learning about the characters in our reading books and are loving taking them home to share with our families.

We have enjoyed learning about directions this week and had to use our listening skills in the hall to follow directions like 4 steps forward, 1 step backwards, 2 steps left and face the opposite direction.  We were so good at these that we used our direction skills to programme the Bee-bots to move in different directions.  It was so much fun!

In structured play on Thursday we enjoyed designing our days of the week boards, playing with the construction and the animals, programming Bee-bots, making and serving food in the restaurant and making pictures with the shape and peg boards.

Looking forward to next week already!

Magic Mac

The nursery children enjoyed watching Magic Mac today in the nursery. They observed him do lots of tricks and helped him with his magic word “Merry Christmas “. He even had a few volunteers to help him.

We would like to say a big Thank You to the Parent and Staff Association.

Getting ready for Christmas

This week the nursery children have enjoyed getting ready for Christmas with Santa’s workshop and sleigh. We have had visits from Elf on the Shelf and the children have enjoyed finding him when they first come in to the nursery. We ended this week with a visit to Almondvale Shopping Centre to buy a present for Santa and have a photograph taken by the Christmas Tree and were lucky enough to see Santa.

Bankton Severe Weather Arrangements

Bankton Primary School shares Janitorial Staff with Dedridge Primary and St. Ninian’s Primary throughout the day. This can put pressure on the early shift in severe weather where the Janitor has responsibility for opening three schools, clearing and gritting paths.

WLC require janitorial staff to clear ONE path designated a safe route into school. In Bankton we have designated TWO paths for this purpose.

The path from the Mowbray Rise gate to the Breakfast Club door and the Zig Zag path to the Infant door will always be gritted early in the morning. The steps at the front of the building will also be gritted to ensure safe access. When the children are inside the building they will be supervised by early arrival staff in the great hall until the start of the day. The playground will be assessed for risk at break and at lunchtime and pupils supervised indoors if there is still a risk from ice / snow.

Any parent or child with disability should always come to the school car park and park in the disabled space, entering the building via the steps.

We would ask you to be aware that in EXTREME conditions, grit scattered at 6am will have little effect, so please wear sensible footwear and stick to the cleared paths.

Thank you for your co-operation with health and safety in our learning community.
