P 4/5

This week we worked very hard!
For writing we wrote about woodland life, to help us plan our writing we went down to the Lanthorn woods to look at the setting and come up with inspiration. We wrote a story where we were a woodland creature, the trip Lanthorn was interesting and very useful for us to describe our setting.
In maths we looked at patterns with numbers and shapes. Most of us found it very fun and easy.
We used curling stones in P.E aiming for targets. We all tried to get the closest, Kerr and Caitlyn were very good at hitting the target.
In topic we learnt how to use alphanumeric maps. We used these skills to map the shopping center.
For science we measured if the longest arm throw the furthest. Our results showed that the length of arm didn’t actually matter with our throws.
Today in Golden Time we imagined that we were in a plane crash and had to survive by making a shelter and fire to get us through the night. After we were done making the shelter we look to see who would have survived and who wouldn’t have made it.
Caitlyn was our star the week, congratulations to Caitlyn!

What’s happened in P4 this week?

Zoe was so pleased that we got our exciting letter saying that we are going to Stirling Castle this week. Everyone is looking forward to our trip on June 16th.

We had Sophie from Le Francais en Ecosse coming in to work with us. We practised our colours and were able to say some of the phrases that we know. Josh enjoyed learning how to say boys and girls- un garçon and une fille.

Lewis really liked writing as if he was a woodland creature. He thought that it was good fun. Amy enjoyed going for our walk in the woods where we saw lots of different things. We are going to use what we saw to help us make a map of the area. That’s for next week!!

P2

P2 have been learning all about Rio as part of our Olympics topic. We can talk about famous landmarks such as Sugarloaf mountain, Christ the Redeemer statue and the Maracana Stadium.

We have been learning about opposites and can write the opposite of ‘asleep’, ‘quiet’ and ‘hard’.

Cameron A has learnt some magic E words such as ‘slime’, ‘five’ and ‘pine’.

We drew sums in the playground using chalk. Alex made 10+10=20. Sachin made 7+8=15. Ayla made 58+24=82. Izaak made 55+50=105. Matthew made 52+74=126.

Corey enjoyed putting beanbags in the hoops to make number bonds to 20.
Kieran has enjoyed doing more subtraction sums this week.

Logan enjoyed watching a Djembe drum performance from the P5 world record holders!
Cameron C is very proud of himself for reaching his assembly target. P2 are very proud of you, well done!

Well done to our star of the week, Baillie!

Raft building in P1a

Last week, P1a were busy building rafts to help save Captain Blackbeard from the desert island.

We worked well in pairs to design and build a raft! We had to think carefully about what materials would be best to make a raft that would float.

This week, we put our rafts to the test and put them in water to see which ones would  float.

All the rafts floated apart from one!

P7, Happy and Healthy!

On Tuesday, Primary 7 took a trip to the James Young High School for their Health Conference.  We enjoyed a day of sporting activities, such as Rugby, Tennis, Handball and Dance.  We found it helpful and interesting to find out our tutor groups and had a chance to meet some new friends.  This trip to JYHS also made us more confident about going up to James Young and us moving on. We met the P.E teachers and Mrs. Hatch (The JYHS head teacher) also spoke to us about or move to JYHS.

Swimming Success in P7a!

On the Thursday 11th of may I went to Arnsberg in Germany with the Livingston and District Dolphins for a swimming competition in a 50 meter outdoor pool with lots of other people from different countries like Sweden, Amsterdam, England, Belgium, Nigeria  and Ghana. It was really fun because you got to meet the other people there and it was a really good experience for everyone there.

P2 love French!

We have enjoyed learning about ‘Magic E’.

  • Logan: ‘page and Jake are Magic E words’.
  • Matthew: ‘cake and shake and Magic E words’.
  • Maya: ‘Magic E can change vowels and also ‘c’ and ‘g’.
  • Cameron C: ‘Magic E is quiet and can change sounds when he stands silently’.

Ayla liked practising writing the letter ‘s’ for handwriting.

Aiyasha is proud of her reading group for reaching the next Oxford Reading Tree stage.

P2 have been learning to read tricky numbers. Jack read ‘456’ and Ayla and Matthew were practising reading numbers up to 1 million!

P2 had a visit from small talks this morning. We had to say our name, count to 10 and say colours in French. We also learnt how to say ‘odd’ and ‘even’ in French. It was great fun playing the photo game!

P 4/5

In science this week we tested whether the tallest person was the fastest. We were timed on a short run and we also measured our heights. Then we plotted our data on a scatter graph. From that we concluded that height didn’t really matter in our test. Things that might effect speed are weight, fitness, leg muscles, how tired.

Yesterday in PE we worked on our shooting skills in basketball. Carla, Bailey and Keir did very well shooting baskets.

Today in maths we did problem solving which most of us found fun and were successful at! Keir and Katie were very efficient at solving the problems. Well done!

We have worked hard to create a rough copy of our own page based on the book Traction Man. Then we made a good copy, using ink and colour that we will put in a class book. Feel free to drop in and have a read!

CEM tests are done and we look forward to getting back to normal next week!
