National Poetry Day!

On Thursday it was National Poetry Day and to celebrate this we wrote our own poems based on Autumn. We had of rhyming couplets which linked to Autumn.

In our topic work, we were learning about the light bulb. We found out that Thomas Edison didn’t invent it but he improved it.

In maths, we were learning how to layout out column addition and how to carry the tens and units. Mrs Stewart and Mrs Ferguson came to see what we were doing and they were very impressed with our knowledge.

Also, it was National Language Day on Wednesday and we learnt how to say ‘hello’ in different languages. We also learnt how to count up to 20 in French.

P3

We made our healthy heart posters telling us different things we can do to keep our hearts healthy. Things like dancing, trampolining, jogging and eating fruits and vegetables. WE continued to practice our number bonds to ten and some of us even tried number bonds to 20 or 100! We had a visitor on Monday, Mrs. Davidson, who told us how different parts of the body help with speech. In writing we did poems about our senses, making little riddles about where we were. We played an exciting game of domes and dishes in PE.

This week in P3

We learnt about the different bones of the body, like your spine (back) your tibia and fibula (shin bones) and your femur (thigh bone). Also, we researched the organs of the body like the lungs, the kidneys, the bladder and the heart. We also practiced our number bonds using number bond bingo. We are getting really good at knowing what numbers go together to make 10. We used these to add past the friendly number

Owl Babies in P1b

Yesterday in class we were using our art skills to make our own baby owls.  We used torn up paper to make the owl head and body shape and stuck on eyes, a beak and some feet.  They are so cute and we can’t wait to put them up on our owl babies display!

In maths we had a go at number talks.  This is where we look at a problem/question and have a think about what we think the answer is.  We then share our answers and talk about how we worked it out so that we can find the most efficient strategies.  There are some hand signals that go along with number talks and we are looking forward to using these again next week.  The hand signals mean I am thinking, I have a strategy and I agree!  Can your child show you the correct hand signals?

Last Friday, P1b were awarded ‘Sammy the Sloth’ which is a reward for being the class who brought in the most healthy snacks during the week.  Well done boys and girls!

Roald Dahl Week

P7A enjoyed creating their own chocolates and sweets for Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory.

“It was really fun when we were making our own sweets and writing about them.” Jade

“I really enjoyed drawing and writing about our sweets.” Abi S

“I loved making our own sweets to put into Wonka’s factory.” Emma S.

It’s been a busy week in P3

This week (as always) has been a very busy week with the wonderful P3’s. We worked really hard using different materials, like feathers, felt and googly eyes to make birds for Mr. Twit’s bird pie. We then wrote out our own recipes for bird pie using ingredients and numbered steps. For Scottish maths week we solve a variety of different puzzles, our favourite was sitting the knights around the king/queen’s table. We also looked at the learning pit and created colourful and inspirational posters to help us when we get stuck in our learning. They teach us to persevere and never give up.

Busy bees in P1b!

This week in class we have been learning some new sounds – n, i and k.  We have been learning how to correctly form the sounds and have been thinking about some things which begin with these sounds.  We made some igloos when we learned about i and a nest when we were learning about n.

In maths we have now learned how to write all the numbers to 10 and are continuing to practise forming these neatly and correctly.  We have been looking at dot patterns and numbers on the ten frame and have been trying to quickly say how many there are without counting e.g. when there is one space we know that this is 9 as one number is missing.  We have enjoyed lots of different activities during Scottish Maths week.

We also enjoyed reading the Roald Dahl book ‘The Enormous Crocodile’ this week to celebrate Roald Dahl day.  We created our own pieces of art disguising the crocodile in different ways just like he did in the book!  They are fantastic!

P6a – Scottish Maths Week and Roald Dahl Day

We have been busy this week in class. We have been taking part in Scottish Maths Week where we worked collaboratively with others in our class to complete various challenges. Check out our photos where we used a single string to create 2D and 3D shapes. We all had to have a hand on the string at all times.

Wednesday was Roald Dahl Day. We created our own chocolate bar/sweetie and described why others may want to eat/buy it.
We hope to share more with you throughout the school year.
Thanks for reading,
Mrs Murray and P6a

Nursery Welcome

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new children and returning children to our nursery. We have had a busy few weeks in the nursery and the children have settled in well. We will have regular updates on this blog on what the children have been learning about.
