Louis Hartl-Hazette played Auld Lang Syne very competently on the trumpet – I’m sure Mrs. Scobie, our brass tutor would have been very proud of you!

Katie Tripney, Kai Wilson and Beth Kinroy performed Burns’ poetry from ‘A parcel of rogues among nations’ to ‘The Joyful Widower’ and ‘Scots Wha Hae’. Our youngest performer, Eric McLeod from P.4 brought some humour with his Scottish poem. All children performed their poem with drama and great attention to the meaning of Scots language. Mrs. Ferguson and I were extremely proud of our Bankton Champs!

Well done everyone!

World Book Day !!!

P2 were looking alittle different today !! They transformed into their  favourite book characters !!

Even Miss Rodford had dressed up as Peter Pan.

We had great fun talking about our characters and the books that they came from.

What characters can you spot in the pictures???

Our walk around the local community

P2 went for a walk in our local community. We were looking shops and places which provide the community with wants and needs. Then when we got back we had a go at sorting the pictures into wants and needs.

We had great fun looking at the shops, doctors and church. It even snowed !!!

” The shop has food and that one of our needs” Lucy

“We need to go to the doctors to get better” AJ

Phonics Phones

The children have had great fun today using our new phonics phones.  They really loved hearing  their voices as they sounded out words and everyone agreed that they helped them with their reading!

The children gave them a fantastic 5 out of 5!

A great success!!!

P1 Fun in the Structured Play Area

This week P1 have been busy extending their learning of our Fairyland topic.  In the structured play area this week, the children were drawing detailed pictures of a fairytale of their choice – Jack and the Beanstalk was a firm favourite!  The  children enjoyed using their imagination when playing with the castles in the small world area and they really impressed Mrs Lloyd with their writing at the literacy table where they worked hard to write a speech bubble for the Gingerbread Man, sounding out their words really carefully.  At the maths table, Miss Campbell played dominoes with the boys and girls and was impressed by how well the children were able to match symmetrical butterflies.  Finally, in the role-play area the children were challenged to act out a favourite fairytale to see if Mrs Lloyd could guess it.  During this time the wolf could be seen trying to blow down the little pigs house, Goldilocks was caught eating the bears porridge, Cinderella lost her glass slipper and the evil queen was asking the mirror who was the fairest of them all!

Childline Visit

P6, P6/7 and P7 received a special visit from Buddy. He came along (with his human helpers) to talk to the children about different types of abuse and where children can go for help if they need it. After a short assembly each class participated in a short workshop where the children had the opportunity to discuss different dilemmas and offer advice on where the fictional children should go for help.

Why not test us and ask us the Childline telephone number? What do you think Buddy actually is?

Game-a-Thon

P1a and P1/2 thorougly enjoyed the game-a-thon organised by P6 pupils last week.  The primary 6 pupils did a super job in planning games for the younger children to take part in.  They worked really hard to set up the hall with all the required equipment and demonstrate each game to the children before setting them off.  Music was played during the activities and the children really enjoyed themselves – a popular favourite was the funny races.  Well done to all involved and thank you to all the parents and carers for your kind donations towards fundraising for Team Jak.
